• Stream: Fight Like Apes – Pretty Keen On Centerfolds

Having first reared its head as a demo back in early 2013, Fight Like Apes have unveiled ‘Pretty Keen on Centerfolds’, the first single from their eagerly-anticipated third studio album. Bursting with the band’s immediately recognisable, ridiculously catchy synth-pop shtick, it’s a hugely promising first release from the MayKay-fronted quartet’s as-of-yet untitled new album, set for release this year. The album will be released fives on from the Andy Gill-produced The Body of Christ and the Legs of Tina Turner. • Morrissey @ Odyssey Arena, Belfast

A man who needs no introduction whatsoever, Morrissey played the Odyssey arena in Belfast last night. In a set largely comprised of tracks from his latest album, World Peace Is None of Your Business, Moz also delivered storming renditions of the likes of ‘Suedehead’ and Smiths‘ songs ‘The Queen Is Dead’, ‘What She Said’ and ‘Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One’ Before. • Dott’s USA Tour Diary: Part 1

In the first of a three part diary entry, our favourite Galway garage pop quartet Dott are currently on tour in America, after taking in SXSW and all of what Texas has to offer. Join them as they spin you a tale of four plucky musicians and their loyal friend/merch monkey as they traverse the American Plains and play some gigs on the way. The Crown and Harp, Dallas TX. March 17 Our first show of the tour happened on St. Patrick’s Day in, you guessed it, an Irish Bar. Actually no, it was an Irish AND English bar under…

  • Bookmark: Joe Lindsay

In this installment of Bookmark we chat to Belfast broadcaster and DJ Joe Lindsay about some of his all-time favourite books. Photos by May Chan. Lou Reed – Victor Bockris I am a huge fan of Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground. I couldn’t believe when I started in radio that my first interviewee was to be Victor Bockris. I loved his book Uptight: The Story Of the Velvet Underground and there I was, about to interview him about his new book on Lou Reed. The dark lord of three chords. White noise and black leather. The Velvet Underground opened some many…

  • Roving Eye: The Young Folk in Birmingham

In second installment of Roving Eye, Tara Thomas sets out for Birmingham with Dublin alt-folk quartet The Young Folk as they do a tour of coffee shops. Last Monday morning found me catching the red eye to Birmingham to meet with The Young Folk. I had the pleasure of sharing the flight with a still merry stag party who used the forty airborne minutes to relive every moment of their weekend, much to the bemusement of the other passengers. Birmingham is the most densely inhabited city in the UK outside London. A city steeped in innovation and revolution has produced a…

In this installment of Track Record we hang out with David A. Tapley from Tandem Felix who after a slight line-up shuffle are on the cusp of releasing their new EP Comma and currently listed as The Guardian’s new band of the week . From the sprawling sounds of Yo La Tengo to his own idol Beck, David’s choices are a huge reflection and  influence on the music he puts out. Photos by Aidan Kelly Murphy. Talk Talk – Laughing Stock My friend Felipe introduced me to Talk Talk at a party many moons ago. I immediately picked up their two final albums,…

Lisa O’Grady aka Lisa Lemur is a Cork based event promoter, sacred harp singer and musician. She recently organised the International Women’s Day event in Gulpd cafe. Lisa’s eclectic taste ranges from the minimalism of Arthur Russell to the ostentatious Os Mutantes. Photos by Melanie Mullan. Pavement – Slanted and Enchanted Credit goes to my friend Bernadette’s big sister Margaret for introducing us to Pavement when we were sixteen and Slanted and Enchanted had just come out. Blown away beyond belief! A love affair had begun! I remember buying the real tape (after the taped one was wrecked) in Comet records in Cork…

In this installment of Front of House, we chat in depth with Caroline Duke who is a production manager working primarily in Vicar Street in Dublin. Photos by Isabel Thomas. Hi Caroline. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? Hello! I’m Caroline, 32 from Athlone. I’m currently living in Celbridge with my partner Conleth and our dogs Dexter and Sadie. How did…
