On Friday December 8 & 9, the Bad Boys of Jazz, aka The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble play three shows at Dublin's Sugar Club. December 8 sees a midnight performance, and the following day will have the band play an all-ages matinee performance in the afternoon, followed by another midnight gig.
The Chicago-based octet are all sons of jazz trumpeter Phil Cohran, and they're not afraid to get weird in their heteroglossic blend of hip-hop, funk & rock, with various worldly traditions, like calypso and gypsy music. Their latest album, Book of Sound, came out this year and continues their hypnotic sound, which they call 'now music'. Here's their debut album.
Tickets are priced at €10 for the matinee and €20 for the late night show, available from The Sugar Club. The early show runs from 2pm-4pm, while the late nights run from 11.30pm-3am.
