    It’s a gig that’s been a long time coming: Rabid Bitch of the North’s single launch for ‘Green Eyes’. Plagues by distribution issues (record label Alone Records hit problems with both Record Store Day and the crumbling Greek economy), invitations for preorder were went out in March last year but the vinyl single (and accompanying anthology CD) didn’t actually arrive until around Halloween.   • Astralnaut – Thieves, Beggars and Swine

    Northern Irish stoner rock five-piece Astralnaut will launch their pummelling new EP, Thieves, Beggars and Swine, at Belfast’s Menagerie on Thursday, May 29. Supported by Bad Boat and Aquatamp, the show will mark the release of the band’s five-track follow-up to In The Gaze Of The Gods.   • EP Stream: Astralnaut – Thieves, Beggars and Swine

    The follow-up to their strong second EP, In The Gaze of the Gods, Nothern Irish stoner rock five-piece Astralnaut are streaming the behemothic triumph that is its follow-up, Thieves, Beggars and Swine. Evoking everyone from Orange Goblin, Fu Manchu and Electric Wizard, the five-track release – driven by blistering riffs, grooves and Pearse Donnelly’s pronouncements – was largely recorded by Alan Hanlon at Hi-Tone Studios and Clark Phillips (Great Northern Productions). It was mixed and mastered by the band and Clark Phillips over the last four months.   • Gig of the week: Astralnaut, Dutch Schultz, Bellos

    This week’s Thin Air gig of the week is surely one of the heaviest Radar line-ups at Belfast’s QUBSU to date. Headlined by fast-rising sludge-doom overlords Astralnaut (above), the three-band bill on Thursday, October 17 also features the riff-fuelled talents of the ever blistering Dutch Schultz and one of the country’s best breakthrough bands of the year, alt-rock three-piece Bellos.
