• Exclusive: The Strypes Secret Gig @ Sweeney’s, Dublin

We had exclusive access to The Strypes secret gig at Retro Revival Club’s birthday celebrations at Sweeney’s in Dublin. William Murphy and Tara Thomas braved the crowdsurfing and cake throwing for what was truly a memorable night.  For any kind of nostalgia heavy gig, there are few venues in the city as good as Sweeney’s. Any place adorned with LP covers, including Crosby, Stills and Nash, If You Want Blood, You Got It and a rather sizable version of the Electric Ladylandcontroversial inner sleeve; is the perfect location for this kind of show. So it’s no surprise that the venue…

  • Premiere: Travis Is A Tourist – Loosen Up

In a land and age increasingly over-saturated with every conceivable ilk and fashion of singer-songwriter, Travis Gilbert AKA Travis Is A Tourist manages to carve his own path of folk-pop, one imbued with a real, almost touchable sense of purpose. The follow-up to his ear-grabbing 2013 debut EP, Gilbert will release the five-track Weakdays on July 6, a release defined by Gilbert’s wonderfully crafted admissions of open-eyed restlessness, doubt and destiny. Seeking to “marry the robust rock of artists such as Ryan Adams with a slice of Prince-esque R’n’B” the EP’s lead single ‘Loosen Up’ distils the essence of Weakdays across three and a…

  • Premiere: Darling – It’s Just One Look

Ahead of its release on Friday, we’re pleased to present an exclusive first look at the video for ‘It’s Just One Look’ by Dublin duo Gary Harding and James McGuire AKA Darling. Directed by Michael Kelly, the video is a wonderfully retro affair, capturing the band and their rousing alt-pop to a tee. In fact, their exuberance is perfectly tangible. The song is the follow-up to the band’s equally impressive 2014 singles ‘Echoes’ and ‘Sail Away’ and will feature on their new EP, also set for release on Friday. Pre-order it here. Darling launch the EP at Dublin’s Sugar Club on Saturday night.…

  • Premiere: Boss Sound Manifesto – Full Moon Crazy Dog

Self-proclaimed “four old punks and a soul boy from Belfast”, Boss Sound Manifesto will launch their debut vinyl and digital EP, In It For The Good Times, at Belfast’s Voodoo on December 20. Ahead of that, we’re pleased to premiere the wonderfully tripped out video to the release’s lead single, ‘Full Moon Crazy Dog’. Created by Belfast-based visual maestros DSNT, the promo – very much in accordance with the music – distils the band’s brilliantly left-of-centre, decidedly no-fucks-given approach. “In it for the good times” indeed. Watch the video below and go the Facebook event page for the EP launch here.

  • Exclusive: Floor Staff – Gift Horse (Live)

Set to perform the Oxjam Takeover in Dublin this evening, we’re pleased to present the first of three exclusive live videos by one of the city’s finest alt-pop bands, Floor Staff. Filmed at Elektra Studios, the video – featuring the band performing the earworming ‘Gift Horse’ – was directed by Bob Gallagher. The music was record by Chris Barry and James Feeney. Go here for the Oxjam Takeover Facebook event page and watch the video below.

  • Premiere: Polyglove – Cruzer

The Thin Air exclusively presents the premiere of Polyglove‘s brand new single Cruzer from their forthcoming Dialler EP, which we recently featured in the first print issue of our magazine. Now for a bit of back story: Wicklow/Dublin natives Niall Conroy and Stephen Maguire met whilst studying film and decided through a mutual love of sound and vision to create their own distinctive brand of ‘Baroque House’ steeped in analogue. They create their dark brooding music through entry level synths arranged in the form of a classic band. Cruzer gurgles along with a nostalgic feel like one of the Ocean loaders for the Commodore…

  • Exclusive: Meb Jon Sol – Leave All Your Troubles With Me

Having reared his head at the start of the year with his debut single, ‘Captain of This Ship’, Belfast-based singer-songwriter Michael McCullagh AKA Meb Jon Sol has released the touching trad-folk of ‘Leave All Your Troubles With Me’ – and we have a first look at the video. Filmed and edited by Colm Laverty, the video, giving the effect of an old 8mm film, features McCullagh performing the track in the Titanic quarter of Belfast, spliced with footage of various people across the world. ‘Leave All Your Troubles With Me’ is available to buy via Bandcamp for £1 or the option to donate…

  • Video exclusive: Arborist – Border Blood

Officially launched on Friday, July 18 at Belfast’s Flow Yoga Studio, we’re very pleased to present an exclusive first-look at the video for ‘Border Blood’, the new single by Belfast-based band Arborist. The lead single from the Mark McCambridge-fronted band’s debut album, Home Burial, the track was recorded by Ben McAuley – also a member of the band – at Belfast’s Start Together Studios. Several local musicians – including core members McAuley, Richard Hill and James Heaney, as well as the likes of violinist Luke Bannon and trumpeter Linley Hamilton – perform on the song. The video was shot and edited by…

  • Inbound/exclusive stream: Nyt Bloomer

Hailing from Donegal, Conor McNamee AKA Nyt Bloomer is one of the more interesting voices in Ireland’s thriving electronic music scene. I met with him at his April 24 show at the Menagerie with Shammen Delly and Colpey to speak about the inception of Nyt Bloomer, his record label You Can’t Break It Records, and his infatuation with sampling. Ahead of the vinyl release, Old Toys is available for streaming exclusively on The Thin Air, and the cassette can be bought in Belfast’s Sick Records. Hi Conor. Lets start with a little background – where did Nyt Bloomer come from? I…

  • Video exclusive: Sullivan & Gold – Please Repeat

Following our two previous video exclusives with the pair, we’re happy to present a first look at the video for ‘Please Repeat’ by Derry singer-songwriter duo Sullivan & Gold. Continuing in their series of live cuts from their debut album For Foes, the video for the track – shot and edited by PIGMINTFILM – features Ben Robinson and Adam Montgomery delving underground in song – a visual stark contrast to their two previous visual accompaniments for both ‘Nobody Loves You‘ and ‘Glory‘. Sullivan & Gold have a few dates on the horizon. Check them and the video for ‘Please Repeat’ out below. Thursday,…
