• Reigning Supreme: An Interview with Pillow Queens

Blue balls, deep fakes, and good clean fun with the flourishing Dublin indie rock quartet Words by Addison Paterson // Photos by Loreana Rushe Pillow Queens are still for a rare minute. The Dublin four-piece just got back from touring their second LP Leave The Light On in the US, and it’s a couple of weeks before they head to the UK. Then Europe, then festival season. It’s quite the change from the album launch they experienced with 2020’s In Waiting — a virtual listening party with fans, all sat in their respective kitchens. Nought to one hundred.  For now, they’re…

  • Pillow Queens – Leave The Light On

Pillow Queens’ sophomore album Leave the Light On smooths the cracks of their debut to unveil a near-perfect follow-up. Where In Waiting documented the rough transition from adolescence into adulthood through fleeting tales of young love and triumphs, Leave the Light On  pushes forward into something more settled. Through elegiac verses and changing perspectives, Pillow Queens construct a metaphorical space that inspects the cracks in its white picket fence. These anthems shine light on the marginalised and lonely as they navigate the mundane and everyday; it’s an album that yearns for the peace of domesticity, in a country that continuously…

  • Watch: Pillow Queens – Hearts & Minds

On 1st April, Dublin quartet Pillow Queens will release Leave The Light On, the highly-anticipated, ten-track follow-up to the band’s 2020 debut LP In Waiting. Capturing what lead singer Pamela Connolly describes as “the reoccurrence of teenage insecurities occasioned by the band’s rise to prominence and the imposter syndrome she experienced as a result,” it’s another sublimely crafted effort from the indie-rock foursome. Underpinned by the subtle exploratory textures of a band in rapid evolution, across four minutes, the song soars and earworms in equal measure. “Hearts & Minds’ is about experiencing the feeling of being a teenager again,” says Connolly. “The insecurities…
