  • Watch: Ciaran Lavery & Ryan Vail – The Sea At Night (Live)

Taken from their exceptional collaborative album, Sea Legs, ‘The Sea at Night’ by Ciaran Lavery and Ryan Vail is right up with our favourite Irish tracks of the year so far. Two months on from performing it at a decidedly intimate show at Derry’s Smalltown America records, the Northern Irish musicians pair have unveiled a wonderfully-shot video of the track by Paul Martin Brown, one that goes some distance in capturing the evocative, subtle and perfectle pensive light and shade of the song. Watch it below and buy the live version here.

  • Watch: Axis Of – Wetsuit

North coast erstwhile punk trio Axis Of have unveiled the video for ‘Wetsuit’ – the first single off their second album, The Mid Brae Inn – which sees them take off in a decidedly more indie, pop-rock direction, a huge departure from the band’s early brand of frantic hardcore; although, in saying that, they’ve been known to have an ear for a hook since the sludge-pop of ‘Lifehammer‘ from their debut LP, 2012’s Finding St. Kilda. The Mid Brae Inn gets its launch through Smalltown America on New Year’s Eve at Belfast’s Empire Music Hall, with ‘Wetsuit’ available from November 26 from Independent Music, with the b-side being…

  • Axis Of – The Mid Brae Inn

Punk-cum-pop trio Axis Of release the their second album, The Mid Brae Inn, on New Year’s Eve through Smalltown America. The three – comprising Ewen Friers, Niall Lawler & Ethan Harman – launched their debut album Finding St. Kilda in the same venue over two years ago, an altogether more punk affair. ‘Wetsuit’ – the first track to get airplay from The Mid Brae Inn – hints at a much more indie-pop direction for the band who were out-and-out hardcore no more than five years ago. Time will tell whether or not it’s a complete revamp for the outfit, but it’ll be interesting to see how…

Following our two previous video exclusives with the pair, we’re happy to present a first look at the video for ‘Please Repeat’ by Derry singer-songwriter duo Sullivan & Gold. Continuing in their series of live cuts from their debut album For Foes, the video for the track – shot and edited by PIGMINTFILM – features Ben Robinson and Adam Montgomery delving underground in song – a visual stark contrast to their two previous visual accompaniments for both ‘Nobody Loves You‘ and ‘Glory‘. Sullivan & Gold have a few dates on the horizon. Check them and the video for ‘Please Repeat’ out below. Thursday,…

  • Watch: Out Krypton Son – I See A Sadness

Off the back of the release of his stunning ‘Can’t Make You Come Back’ (not to mention a sublime cover of Willie Nelon’s ‘Pretty Paper’) Derry singer-songwriter Chris McConaghy AKA Our Krypton Son has unveiled a live video of a sublime new track, ‘I See A Sadness’. Filmed in Smalltown America’s studio in Derry, the video – edited by Paul Brown and his team from In Your Steps – is, according to the STA blog on the video, “delicate in every sense of the word and is sure to pull on the heart strings and bring a tear to a…
