• Talos – Wild Alee

In Wild Alee, Cork’s Eoin French, AKA Talos, has created a long player of considerable depth and uncomplicated beauty. A debut-proper, the record follows on from a series of releases that only delicately hinted at the kind of multi-tonal, meticulously constructed arrangements that French, and currently his extended Talos outfit, have now harnessed in all of their charming sheen. A result indebted, no doubt, to both the fact that Wild Alee was partly written and conceived of in Reykjavik with Valgeir Sigurðsson (Sigur Rós; Bjork), as well as in Ireland under the guidance / magic touch of Ross Dowling. From the off, it’s…

  • Watch: Talos – Your Love Is An Island

After a weekend that saw Cork’s Eoin French AKA Talos perform with his band in the unique and magnificent concert setting of the Mitchelstown Caves, the Feel Good Lost artist has just revealed the video for brand new track ‘Your Love is an Island’. The song, a ballad which follows the trajectory Talos has been on since his 2014 debut ‘Tethered Bones’, features subtle, crisp acoustic guitars, warm keys and plenty of ambient backdrops for French’s brittle, captivating vocals.  There are elements that seem cut from the same ambient cloth as MMOTHS Luneworks and Sigur Rós‘ Valtari, but there remains a folk sensibility to it that keep French’s lyrics and…

  • Watch: Talos – In Time

Having first streamed it back in September last year, the exquisite  ‘In Time’ by Cork singer-songwriter and producer Eoin French AKA Talos has been brought to life via what should probably be commonly referred to as the Feel Good Lost treatment. Speaking about video for the track, FGL’s Brendan Canty said, “It is an abstract portrayal of searching for a lost love, clinging onto memories and doing everything you can to save it.” Wonderfully mirroring lyrics including, “I was loved and now that loves lost I know they’ll never find us/Way out amongst the madness I feel free” Canty summons an arcane world in which every movement…

  • Hard Working Class Heroes 2015 – Friday

Fast forward through your own boring life and the cycle starts again. Another night of wall to wall quality music with the criminal schedule clashes an unfortunate reminder of the standard for the night. By 8pm the Mercantile is host to its first few shuffling visitors and Lie Ins fuzzy pop-rock. It’s comprehensive, bouncy stuff but maybe a little unexciting. However the room slowly fills and by the time Staring at Lakes overcome what seems to be a host of technical difficulties the place could almost be called busy. Despite the Mercantile venues shit wedding party charm, half a song…

  • Stream: Talos – In Time

The brainchild of Cork singer/writer/producer Eoin French, ‘In Time’, the latest release from Talos, has just been made available. His debut single, ‘Tethered Bones‘ came out last year, and his progressively strong singles since then have hinted at a wider ambition, tying together contemporary Irish singer-songwriter material with more ambient, atmospheric electronic panorama. He plays The Academy at 9.35 this Friday night as part of Hard Working Class Heroes in Dublin. Stream ‘In Time’ below:

  • Sounds from a Safe Harbour: Five to Watch

While Sounds from a Safe Harbour brings many high-profile and international acts to Cork City as part of a wide-ranging ticket, the real gems of the festival lie in the presence on the bill of some of the city and country’s independent bands and artists, once again mostly placed on a “music trail” as a secondary attraction (see also: MTV “hitting” Cork). Never fear, though: TTA’s got you covered with a look of some of the ones to watch. All events listed here are free. Rusangano Family: Friday 18 September @ The Bodega Formerly known by their individual names of…

  • Watch: Talos – Bloom

One of our must-see acts at the Cork Music Trail next week, Eoin French AKA Talos has unveiled the video for his latest single, ‘Bloom’. Created by the ridiculously-talented Feel Good Lost, the video is quite an intense affair, centering on the attempted (physical and psychic/spiritual) release of its hyper-distressed female protagonist. The track is released with ‘Tethered Bones’ on 12″. Watch the video below.

  • Cork Music Trail: Ones to Watch

It would seem that MTV have remembered what their (previously-orphaned) acronym stands for, turning their attention away from mouth-breathing reality-show nonsense, and on to music, of all things. With the announcement of the Shepard Fairey-directed Rebel Music calling attention to youth subcultures around the world and the transcendent tunes that soundtrack their lives, the idea hits that the floundering music-channel grandfather has either finally realised the error of its ways and is earnestly trying for relevance, or has just been subject to the law of diminishing returns. Either way, the cable & satellite success story of the 1980s wobbles its way to Cork…
