• Stewart Lee w/ Chris Kent @ Vicar Street, Dublin

It’s May 24, 2015. It’s been one day since Ireland has officially voted in legislation to allow equal marital rights to the LGBTQA community. The previous night’s celebrations are literally the stuff of legend and in its aftermath, the city of Dublin is collectively undergoing what can only be described as a fierce hangover. Yet in spite of this, the atmosphere in Vicar Street is warm and welcoming. That sense of accomplishment and pride from Saturday is still in the air. So it makes sense that many of us decided to flock to see Stewart Lee, probably one of the…

  • Flying Lotus @ Vicar Street, Dublin

With the doors to Vicar Street, Dublin, opening at 7.30pm, our approach was somewhat cautious.  Surely there won’t be anybody here? We’re a bit early, right? WRONG. As we turned the corner, tickets in hand and anticipation set to almost uncomfortable levels, we were psyched to see a few hundred people milling about outside the entrance, all as giddy and as anxious to get inside as us, for a night featuring none other than the inimitable, the glorious, the Captain himself, Flying Lotus. It’s a strange, but welcome experience too, entering the cavernous venue so early and seeing it so…

  • Sharon Van Etten @ Vicar Street, Dublin

It was inevitable given the locale and the name of tonight’s performer that the words of Georgie fucking Burgess – indelibly etched into the minds of every Irish person of a certain generation – would be proffered in the direction of the stage. “That was A1, Sharon” – not just hollow, borrowed words in this instance, but a snappy summation of a fine performance bathed in the warm glow of the Vicar Street stage. Sharon Van Etten coos a “hello” to the chattering crowd, quietening them for a time as the five-piece band begins ‘Afraid Of Nothing’. Dark shades and…

  • AAA: Foil, Arms and Hog @ Vicar Street, Dublin

In this installment of AAA, we go behind the scenes with comedy trio Foil, Arms and Hog live at their sell out show at Vicar Street in Dublin. Fresh off their slot on Jason Byrne‘s Snaptastic telly show, the lads had the entire venue on its feet by the end of their set which marked their 7th year together. The show included a wide variety of sketches, from old favourites to new material, culminating in crafted and well earned punchlines, sometimes with unexpected results thrown in thanks to a snorting or cackaling member of the crowd. Their comfort and experience in the…

  • AAA: Booka Brass Band @ Vicar Street, Dublin

In this installment of AAA we go behind the scenes with Booka Brass Band for their incredible show in Vicar street. From soundcheck, to back stage tuning of instruments and nacho consuming to the live show with guests such as Richie Egan from Jape, Mark Austin from The Minutes and Zaska. A special thanks to Una Molloy of Turning Pirate and the band for being most accommodating. Check out the gallery below for a comprehensive overview of the night with photos by Mark Earley.

  • Front of House: Caroline Duke

In this installment of Front of House, we chat in depth with Caroline Duke who is a production manager working primarily in Vicar Street in Dublin. Photos by Isabel Thomas. Hi Caroline. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? Hello! I’m Caroline, 32 from Athlone. I moved to Dublin when I was 18 to study film production (I just wanted to learn about making music videos), then moved to London for a few years, a six-month stint backpacking, then back to Dublin again. I’m currently living in Celbridge with my partner Conleth and our dogs Dexter and Sadie. How did…
