Premiere: Heart Shaped – Sometimes
One woman power-pop prodigy Kendall Bousquet, AKA Heart Shaped, is back with second single ‘Sometimes’, taken from her forthcoming debut EP, Second Hand.
Brimming with the airy, bittersweet pathos of Teenage Fanclub and Alvvays, it was recorded in typically DIY fashion by Sister Ghost’s Shannon O’Neill across bedrooms, kitchens and attics – and it’s infectious as hell. Second Hand is set for release on cassette and digital on December 4, via Poison Moon Records.
Speaking of the single – out tomorrow – Kendall told us: “‘Sometimes’ is a track that I initially set out to write as a love song but it didn’t quite turn out that way. Heartbreak and grief and infatuation are obviously well-covered topics in the canon of pop music. But when I was writing my first tape, Second Hand, I kept returning to the idea that these are past, present and future variations on a theme. Some relationships can feel viscerally real but play out largely inside your own mind. I’m interested in that human capability for one-sidedness and ambiguity. It’s a mixture of creativity and hope and loneliness and boredom that allows us to conjure big feelings out of even the smallest glimmer of possibility. It has felt even more relevant lately because I think we’ve all been forced to do a lot of living inside of our own heads this year.”
