• Stream: No Monster Club – Rock N’ Roll Kids

Ireland has always had something of intimate relationship with the whole Eurovision phenomenon. From first winning it back in 1965, we’ve won it a record seven times, including three times in a row in 1992, 1993 and 1994. The latter of those “successes” fell to ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Kids’, performed by Paul Harrington. Twenty years on – and ahead of the 59th annual Eurovision on Saturday night – Dublin indie rock trio No Monster Clubhave decided to put their own spin on that song. Sound slightly dodgy? Think again. The track – clocking in at just under three minutes – is given a scuzzy lo-fi…

  • Watch: GO WOLF – One More Night

Set to support Wild Beasts at Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival tonight (May 8), Belfast-based indie-pop band GO WOLF have unveiled the video to their new single, ‘One More Night’. Directed by Babysweet, the video features three female actresses “being” GO WOLF, with the band lending a helping hand along the way. Pretty cool concept, we reckon. Recorded and produced by Rocky O’Reilly at Start Together Studios, Belfast, ‘One More Night’ was mastered by Robin Schmidt. Watch the video for the single below.

  • Watch: VerseChorusVerse – Three

Currently on tour in England, Northern Irish singer-songwriter Tony Wright AKA VerseChorusVerse has unveiled the video to his latest single, the wonderfully dark ‘Three’. Created by Industrious Dark – the team behind Wright’s videos for  ‘No More Years‘ and ‘Nothing is Easy‘ – it was shot in Wright’s Grandmothers old house and in Edinburgh. Speaking of the video, Wright said, “Adrian Rowe  – who was guitarist in my first band, PepperBook – and Emma Dodds are the brains behind it. I said that I had been watching lots of Orson Welles’ movies – well, more than usual – Third Man etc., and would love something noir. Plus…

  • Inbound/exclusive stream: Nyt Bloomer

Hailing from Donegal, Conor McNamee AKA Nyt Bloomer is one of the more interesting voices in Ireland’s thriving electronic music scene. I met with him at his April 24 show at the Menagerie with Shammen Delly and Colpey to speak about the inception of Nyt Bloomer, his record label You Can’t Break It Records, and his infatuation with sampling. Ahead of the vinyl release, Old Toys is available for streaming exclusively on The Thin Air, and the cassette can be bought in Belfast’s Sick Records. Hi Conor. Lets start with a little background – where did Nyt Bloomer come from? I…

  • Watch: Talos – Escariot

Directed, shot and edited by the visual maestros at Feel Good Lost, Cork singer-songwriter Eoin French AKA Talos has released a suitably understated video of him performing a wonderfully delicate version of ‘Tethered Bones’. Reminiscent of the likes of Perfume Genius and the Antlers, the stripped-back rendition of the debut track sees French’s vocals take centre stage, the original track’s percussion inflections and electronic tangents purified to a gripping four and a half minute of serene performance. We approve, in other words. Check out the video (by FGL’s Brendan Canty and Conal Thomson) and the original track below.

  • Watch: TVVINS – Book (Live)

Four months on from the propulsive electro-pop of their second single, ‘You Better’, Dublin duo Lar Kaye and Conor Adams AKA TVVINS have released a video of them performing a new track, ‘Book’, at Dublin’s Storm Studio. Featuring live drummer Lewis Hedigan, the track – evocative of the likes of PVT and early Battles – opens with the wonderful opening line,”So what? You read a book. I took it from you and you took a second look”, unravelling quickly to reveal an intoxicating blend of polyrhythms melding with throbbing bass lines, jagged guitar shapes and a general air of self-assured, summery…

Having recently (and very deservedly) secured the support slot for Wild Beasts at Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival on May 8, Belfast indie-pop band GO WOLF have released a slick new track, ‘One More Night’. Set for release on June 2, the song – recorded by Rocky O’Reilly at Start Together Studios and mastered by Robin Schmidt of 24-96 Mastering – charges forth confidently, gleaming synth-lines and bobbing rhythms meshing to form a strong three and half minutes, its main earworming melody lingering in the mind well after a first spin (which is no bad thing, of course). Check out the…
