• Visual Arts Outlook (8/9)

The main event to be aware of this week is the Dublin Gallery Weekend. If you’re based in Belfast you should definitely consider heading down on either Friday Saturday or Sunday to soak up the experience. Many of Dublin’s main galleries will be taking part including the IMMA, the Douglas Hyde the RHA and many, many more. Lots of the spaces will be offering up artist and curator talks, walkthroughs and events throughout the weekend so check out the website for all the details.http://www.dublingallerymap.ie  The event has been planned to coincide with the launch of the new Dublin Gallery Map…

  • Visual Arts Outlook (11/8)

This August is proving to be a busy one with events continuing throughout the summer months and some great shows to get out and see. After the rather hectic Late Night Art in Belfast last Thursday, it’s good to call round and see the new exhibitions at a more relaxed pace when things are a bit quieter. Definately check out ‘Because these Reds’ by  Ciarán Wood at PS2 on Donegal Street which continues until the 15th August. I would also recommend dropping into the Mac today or tomorrow to witness the screening of the ‘Creative Time Summit’. The Mac is…

  • Visual Arts Outlook (4/8)

So after a longer than intended yet still brief hiatus (when I say hiatus I mean holidays in the rain!), I’m back with all your Visual Arts events, wants and needs. As usual July was a quiet month, with many shows continuing on, or galleries preparing for the busy Autumn period (don’t worry – I know we’re not there yet). The beginning of August sees lots of new events on the Irish art scene, including a three day exhibition at Pollen, The Lime Walk Project featuring work by Aiden Deery, Gail Mahon, Heather Dornan Wilson, Stuart Cairns, Alice Clarke and…

  • Visual Arts Outlook (30/6)

It’s a busy week ahead with the first Thursday of July bringing the usual round of Late Night Art Openings here in Belfast, writes Mary Stevens. However Thursday is not the only night this week when good things are happening. There is a closing event for Product Recall at the Galway Arts Center on Friday evening at 6.30pm with work from the Red Bird Youth Collective who have collaborated with US artist Sarah Baker. The final event of the seemingly endless  BASS Belfast Artists’ Sonic Showcase Event #6 at Framewerk takes place on Saturday evening with the final lineup of…

  • Visual Arts Outlook (23/6)

In the middle of the month we have many exhibitions that are ongoing, with less openings this week, writes Mary Stevens. The BASS Belfast Artists’ Sonic Showcase Event #5 Alice Burns, Saul Rayson and Helena Hamilton, will certainly be a great night and takes place on Saturday evening at 7pm at FRAMEWERK. We also have the continuation of To Camera at the Golden Thread and Silent Valley by Liam Crichton at Platform Arts in Belfast, so if you haven’t seen them yet I would recommend a visit. Project Arts Center – Dublin Riddle of the Burial Ground 11 June -01…

  • Visual Arts Outlook (15/6)

June is always a nice month to see some exciting new arts projects due to the College shows and the lovely summer weather (hopefully!). If you haven’t been to your local end of year degree show, I would very much recommend you do! Aligned, the NCAD awards exhibition (undergraduate) is on this week 1pm-5pm Monday – Friday. There is also the continuation this weekend of the BASS Belfast Artists’ Sonic Showcase Event #4 with artists Bernadette Comac, Die Hexen and Aghori at FRAMEWERK. This will be happening on Saturday evening at 7pm so be sure to check it out. If…

  • Visual Arts Outlook (25/5)

After last weeks break, we are back with a full schedule of arts events to enhance your week. Coming into June we are readying ourselves for the wave of the annual end of year Art College shows – most of which will be taking place next week so keep an eye out for more details on them. In Catalyst Arts on Thursday there is an exciting event called BYOB (not the rather more well known Bring Your Own Bottle) which stands for Bring Your Own Beamer, Beamer being the casual name for a projector in most parts of Europe. BYOB…

  • Visual Arts Outlook (12/5)

This week’s main event in the Visual Artists Ireland “Get Together” which happens on Ireland’s National Day for Visual Artists. This year at IMMA (Irish Museum of Modern Art) the “Get Together” is the best way for emerging artists to network and see what’s out there for them. There will be established artists talking about their practice, speed curating for advice and discussion of your work, the announcement of the VAI members award and the launch of the 126 Gallery Footfall Report on Artist Led Spaces in Ireland. This all takes place among a whole host of other events and…

  • Visual Arts Outlook (05/05)

The Venice Biennale opens this week so the irish contingent has travelled to support Sean Lynch in his opening of Adventure Capital which will this year be housed at The Irish Pavillion in the Arsenale. Lynch’s work can be seen until the 22nd of November, so there is plenty of time to get to Venice and see it. The MAC opens its second guest curated show this Thursday. Gregory McCartney presents I Will Go There, Take Me Home, the work of Adrian Ghenie, Pieter Hugo and Olaf Brzeski. The opening is from 7pm. Finally, don’t forget that Late Night Art…
