  • Paul G. Smyth @ The Lutheran Church, Dublin

    June 6, 2016 - By Zara Hedderman

A year or so ago, I was told about an amazing gig that had happened in the National Concert Hall. It was unlike any live performance that the person recounting the night had ever seen. From that moment I was intrigued and eager to see Paul G. Smyth perform. Smyth, a member of The Jimmy Cake as well as a revered genius in the art of improvisational music is probably one of the most important musicians in Dublin. A sentiment immortalised following an outstanding, and at times unnerving, performance on a remarkably beautiful summer’s evening in St. Finian’s Church. The…

  • AAA: Two Nights with HamsandwicH

    May 17, 2016 - By Loreana Rushe

HamsandwicH played two back to back nights at the Academy in Dublin at the weekend and our photographer Pedro Giaquinto had full access. Here’s what he had to say about his experience: If I had to gather all the adjectives in existence to describe the two full nights I shared with HamsandwicH at The Academy, they wouldn’t be enough. It was awesome to follow these guys through whole process, from the load-in of their equipment, the stage preparation, sound check, and the moments before they appeared on the stage. Both nights ended with confetti canons and balloons which had myself and the audience enthralled. I believe HamsandwicH…

  • Aidan Moffat: ‘Where You’re Meant To Be’ screening & performance @ Black Box, Belfast

    May 5, 2016 - By Loreana Rushe

Aidan Moffat has been a busy man over the last few years but that hasn’t stopped him from quietly taking the Scottish folk songs of the countryside and transplanting them to the city. Working alongside documentary filmmaker Paul Fegan, Where You’re Meant To Be is part Road movie and part music documentary. Where You’re Meant To Be is Fegan’s first feature-length but the director is a former music promoter in Glasgow and has previously made a short film Pouters (streaming for free online) alongside a number of music videos for Aidan Moffat & Bill Wells and Belle & Sebastian. As…
