The Selecter & The Beat [Co-Headliner]

    The Academy

    Dublin

    skaco

Two of the most important acts in the ska/2-Tone movement, The Beat and The Selecter, have announced a show at the Academy on May 5 as part of a co-headline tour.

The Beat formed in 1978 at the peak of unemployment and social upheaval and alongside The Specials, found much success through their messages of hope in an otherwise bleak British society. They released 3 albums before disbanding in 1983 until a one-off 2003 semi-reunion, before a full regrouping took place in 2006. Their current iteration includes Ranking Roger and  Ranking Junior onstage. Here's 'Mirror In The Bathroom'.

Formed in Coventry in 1979, The Selecter were politically and socially charged by the vocals of rude girl Pauline Black. They were one of the most successful acts of the 2 Tone era despite releasing just 2 albums, with hits like 'On My Radio'. They disbanded in 1981 and split into Pauline Black's Selecter songwriter Neol Davies' Selecter after a reunion in 1991.

Tickets are on sale now from Ticketmaster for €30.
