To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the - for once, justified use of the word - seminal debut album, Belfast's The MAC hosts a playthrough of The Velvet Underground & Nico on May 20.
Performing at the show are guests including The Answer's Cormac Neeson, VerseChorusVerse, aka Tony Wright, Dan Gregory, Alana Henderson, Dean Stevens, Michael Mormecha, Fiona O'Kane, David Preston, Chris McCorry, with more to be announced.
Released in March 1967 by Verve Records, The Velvet Underground & Nico is now widely recognised as one of the greatest and most influential albums in the history of popular music.
Accompanied by vocalist Nico, the album was recorded in 1966 while the group were featured on Andy Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable multimedia event tour, which gained attention for its experimental performance sensibilities and controversial topics, including drug abuse, prostitution and sexual deviancy.
Brian Eno famously stated that while the album initially only sold 30,000 copies, "everyone who bought one of those 30,000 copies started a band."
Tickets are available from The MAC, priced from £12.50-£25. Door open at 9pm.
