Of the many records to emerge from the apex of pocket-symphony indie rock, Mercury Rev's fourth album, Deserter's Songs is, for many, the prime example of its artistry and intimate grandeur. On April, the band are set to complete four 'special, acoustic and intimate performances' in Ireland, playing Dolan's Warehouse, Limerick, on April 18.
After the commercial failure of their third album, believed by the band at that point to be their finest, in 1998, they released an album that was intended entirely for themselves, ignoring commercial pressure, expecting to split up shortly after. It went on to be a critical success and became their most successful album. Listen to the masterpiece that is Deserter's Songs.
Tickets are priced €28 from Ticketmaster. Doors open at 8pm.
