Arizona alternative rock heroes Meat Puppets will play three dates in Ireland in June. The band – who formed in 1980 by brothers Curt and Cris Kirkwood with Derrick Bostrom – will play Belfast's Empire on June 8.
The shows take place as part of a tour marking the band’s new album, Dusty Notes, which features the band’s original line-up for the first time since 1995. Starting out as a band too dogmatic in their hardcore roots to even rehearse, they gradually drew in desert psychedelia and country influence, helping to found the cowpunk sound on their flawless Meat Puppets II. They'd catch some fortune off the back of Kurt Cobain's love for that album, with 3 cuts ending up on MTV Unplugged, leading to a string of 90s alt. rock hits like 'Backwater'.
