Gigs

Room 19: Byob Party For The People at Jigsaw, Dublin
Friday 19 February 2016

This byob “gaff party” of sorts is a fundraiser for the Syrian crisis, specifically for the Dublin Calais Refugee Solidarity Group. Held in an intimate venue on Mountjoy Square, it should be a lot of fun. AH

Jackmaster & Fatima Yamaha at District 8, Dublin
Saturday 20 February 2016

Jackmaster is a regular visitor to these shores, and he’s a perennial party boy. Fatima Yamaha, who made a sleeper hit on Irish label D1 a decade ago that was reissued on Dekmantel to huge acclaim last year, should bring his own brand of melodic techno. AH

TRACKS

Samrai & Platt – Tease Me (Feat. Kemikal) [Swing Ting]

Samrai & Platt return on their own Swing Ting label to bring some UK/Jamaica hybrid party vibes. They’ve enlisted Kingston’s Equiknoxx Music crew’s Kemikal to provide vocals for this garage-y summer vibe centre. Absolutely lush. AL

NEO IMAGE – Positive Pressure (no stream)

Vancouverite NEO IMAGE had a remix on my favourite EP of last year, Florist’s ‘Phenomena’, but to date I’d heard pretty much nothing of his own stuff. Seeing this crop up on his Soundcloud this week did not disappoint because ‘Positive Pressure’ is a lovely deep Pacific house jam for those hazy evenings. AL

Smutskatt – Lillviken (AHT047)

Deep and vibrant techno out of Sweden, slow burning but effortlessly groovable. Don’t know much about the artist or label, but I’ll be digging into more after hearing this gem. AH

Giganta – The Story

Greek artist Giganta, fresh from an appearance on DJ Moxie’s recent compilation, drops this emotive rnb refix. AH

Mixes

Sadar Bahar – RA.507

Second killer RA mix in a row this week, this time from the legend that is Sadar Bahar. The Chicago legend has turned in a mix brimming with the soul of the Windy City. It’s full of total gems from way back when as well as being, most importantly, full of joy and fun. AL

Greg Beato – Dekmantel Podcast 57

Miami’s Greg Beato packs a lot of heat into his productions. He’s also quite elusive as a DJ and there aren’t many recordings of his mixes kicking about. Thankfully, Dekmantel have provided us with one and he clearly takes a similar gritty take to his sets as he does his own music. As you’d expect, raw cuts and acid make up a sizeable portion of the mix. Killer.AL

Loose Lips Show (Hoxton FM) – 17/02/16 – w/Chloe Frieda (Alien Jams)

Chloe Frieda fires out alien waves every fortnight on her NTS show, but here she cut loose on a special guest spot on London’s Hoxton FM. Crisp electro oddities and dank mutant techno cuts abound. Nice and weird. AH

mix for sisters #7 – D. Tiffany

This glorious mix from D. Tiffany, another Vancouver native, who’s released on Genero and 1080p, kicks off with some dreamy, sleep-soaked electronica, then moves through jazzy phases and gloopy house. Understated perfection. AH
