With Aidan Hanratty off on a well-earned holiday, Antoin Lindsay delivers a look at the best electronic gigs, tracks and mixes of the week.
GIGS
Twitch Present Objekt at QUBSU, Belfast
Saturday, June 18
It’s been a long time coming, but Objekt is coming to Belfast, specifically Twitch, and it will probably be absolute carnage. With his lethal combination of deep cuts and bangers he’ll almost certainly be a huge hit with the crowd. Warm up comes from the fantastic Manchester crew Meat Free.
TRACKS
Ian Pooley – Cold Wait (Bicep Edit)
Drafting in local favourites Bicep for a remix is always a good shout, and Ian Pooley (pictured) seems to have recognised this. Maybe not as banging as some of Bicep’s recent stuff but still mighty fun from the masters of the good vibe.
Powder – Afrorgan [Born Free]
In equal parts beefy and light, Sweden’s Powder follows up her release last year on Born Free with this peach of a twelve. It manages to roll along being murky and melodic at the same time. Definitely one to cop.
MIXES + RELEASES
Lnrdcroy – Ooze City [Mood Hut]
https://soundcloud.com/mood-hut/mh011-lnrdcroy-ooze-city
Hypnotic, bassy house music coming from one of the most consistent producers to emerge from the Mood Hut. Only snippets of the release have cropped up so far but given both the label and the artist’s track record, the whole release will be as great as the sampler suggests.
Beats In Space with Aurora Halal and Ital
Two for the price of one as always with Beats in Space, this time the pairing of Aurora Halal and Ital who provided two of the finest sets I seen last year. Aurora Halal’s DJ set is mainly driving techno and electro and Ital gives us an glorious heady hour long live set.
