9.57 (Sunset)

Curated by Cork Midsummer artist-in-residence and long-time TTA favourite ELLLL and Sample-studios, 9.57 (Sunset) is an essential new series of live performances, electronic music, and late-night DJs celebrating the summer solstice.

Taking place over two weekends from 9.57pm until late at Triskel Arts Centre in Cork, the series kicks off on Saturday, 15 June with the free-form psych/dub-dance of headliners Holy Tongue. The evening opens with FIXITY, led by composer, improviser and drummer Dan Walsh, wrapping up with surprise guest DJs at the CTC at TDC space.

The following night, cellist and composer Okkyung Lee presents her unique blend of noise, improvisation, jazz, classical, and traditional Korean music. Joining her are Dublin-based pianist Jasmine Wood and acclaimed harpist Méabh McKenna, whose work combines contemporary techniques with a rich tradition of Irish traditional music.

The following weekend, curated by Emer Yip for Sample-Studios, continues the stellar lineup. Friday, 21 June features the Irish debut of post-punk ambi-dustrial band Cindytalk, including vocalist and producer Cinder (This Mortal Coil), bassist Massimo Pupillo (Zu), and keyboardist Thighpaulsandra (Spiritualized, Coil). UK artist and director Florence To will provide a live visual performance, with Cork duo Howlbux (Elaine Howley, Irene Buckley) setting the spectral tone for the evening.

Concluding the series on Saturday, 22 June is Moscow-based artist Kate NV. who brings her burrowing synth pop to an Irish audience for the first time. She will be joined by US sound artist and NTS resident Felisha Ledesma, who will kick off the evening with what we expect to be a supremely somnambulant mix of found sounds and field recordings.
