Having sealed a stellar 2023 by winning three awards at the NI Music Prize—including a well-earned nod for Best Live Act—Chalk have revealed details of their second EP.
Comprising Ross Cullen, Benedict Goddard and Luke Niblock, the Belfast trio have been honing their searing craft since forming in 2019. It’s an increasingly insular arc that’s set to enter new territory on 1st March with the release of their Conditions II.
The follow-up to the blistering Conditions, which dropped in May last year, the EP will be released via Nice Swan Records—home to Sports Team, Pip Blom and more—on 1st March.
An outright highlight of their live show, propulsive lead single ‘Claw’ strongly hints at a release that we’re confident will crown their ascendancy in the coming months.
Speaking about the song, frontman Ross Cullen said: “’Claw’ is about falling in love inside a nightmare. There’s a mixture of loss and relief that we wanted to capture. Subconscious feelings are at the crux of most of our tracks – something that we started on Conditions EP.
“We still feel like we’re in that universe of figuring ourselves out as people and using our sonic palette to make sense of it. There’s still a few feelings we want to explore and staying in the world of Conditions is something we’ve grown to enjoy – we don’t want to leave just yet”.
