With summer festival announcements dropping left, right and center, the proverbial purse strings are undoubtedly a little tighter than usual for most of us. That said, as ever, there’s just some one-off shows on the horizon that fall directly under the downright “unmissable” category. Here’s our picks of a handful of gigs happening across the country over the next few days that we think warrant popping along to.
Cloud Nothings, Princess – The Button Factory, Dublin, May 24
With the April release of their third studio album, Here and Nowhere Else, Ohio indie rock three-piece Cloud Nothings (pictured) all but confirmed their status as one of the finest guitar bands of their generation. The Dylan Baldi-fronted band will stop off at Dublin’s Button Factory on Saturday, May 24. (Perfectly-selected) upport on the night comes from Dublin “trip-punk” trio Princess.

La Dispute, Affleck – Bar Sub @ QUBSU, Belfast, May 25
On Sunday night, Northern Irish electronic three-piece Affleck will support Michigan post-hardcore band La Dispute at Belfast’s intimate Bar Sub. Ten years into their career, the latter released their third studio album, Rooms of the House, to widespread critical acclaim back in March. Affleck, on the other hand, have been steadily climbing the ranks in their significantly more understated recently.

Hospitality, My Sad Captains – Whelan’s, Dublin, May 24
One of Merge Records’ finest, Brooklyn indie pop foursome Hospitality will stop off at Whelan’s, Dublin on Saturday night. With their new album, Trouble, racking up a whole list of plaudits from across the board, the Amber Papini-fronted band will be supported by Bella Union four-piece My Sad Captains. A most excellent two-band show in the making.
