  • The PVP Unveil First Single ‘Callan’ Ahead of Their Debut Album

Following our Inbound feature last year, Limerick supergroup The Personal Vanity Project have released their debut single ‘Callan’, with a video directed by Graham Patterson. Creating a blur of psychedelia-infused indie rock formed in 2021, the group comprises drummer/vocalist Brendan McInerney (Bleeding Heart Pigeons), keyboardist James Reidy (His Father’s Voice), and guitarist/vocalist Chris Quigley (Cruiser).  This release comes with the announcement of their eponymous debut album, set for release through Pizza Pizza Records on May 25. The single falls somewhere between My Bloody Valentine’s warbling sonic mastery, Duster’s expansive wistfulness and J Mascis’ fuzzed-out amp worship. The album was produced…

  • A Litany of Failures Announce Dublin Fundraiser Schedule

In conjunction with IMRO, Irish grassroots independent compilation series A Litany Of Failures is set to hold a bank holiday weekend-long fundraiser over March 30th & 31st at the Button Factory. The two day event will act as a fundraiser for Volume V of the compilation series, which was been described by the Irish Times as “indispensable listening for any Irish music fan with a modicum of taste”. The full lineup is a veritable who’s who of forward-thinking Irish artistry from all corners of the island. The project was conceived as a way that DIY and independent artists could come…

  • Chatting To The Cheesemonger: An Interview with Danny Carroll

A quintessential indie rock showman-turned-millennial songsmith in the classical mode, we have a chat with Danny Carroll ahead of the release of his solo debut LP I Am The Cheese, out this Friday. Your debut LP I Am The Cheese shares its title with a 1977 young adult fiction novel, written by Robert Cormier. Could you tell us about the poignancy of that title to yourself and this body of work? It’s a book I read when I was 12 and was pretty haunted by. The final lines of the novel refer back to the folk song ‘The Farmer In…

  • Inbound: Garrett Laurie

It’s rarer than hen’s teeth but sometimes a voice can warrant legitimate “stop you in your tracks” status. Garrett Laurie’s is one such example. Having grown up singing in church folk groups, the Belfast-based artist’s folk-pop craft – and exquisite vocal delivery – is proving every bit as gossamer as it is quietly beatific. While last year’s Can I Play Too Or Is It Just For Boys? EP proved a sublime introduction, recent single ‘All About Me’ underscored the promise of an artist wielding soul-stirring finesse. Co-penned with Ciaran Lavery and Stephen O’Hagan at Soft Gut Song Camp, it conjures…

  • Video Premiere: Danny Carroll – Cheesemonger

We’ve long championed former Shrug Life frontman Danny Carroll as a forerunner in the conversation around Ireland’s greatest current-day lyricists. Continually capturing his milieu in sardonic, vivid detail, age has sharpened his instincts and composition, yet tempered his self-deprecative tendencies – to a point. That point is exactly what Carroll’s latest single, ‘Cheesemonger’, finds itself wrestling with throughout. The track is featured on Volume IV of the Litany of Failures compilation of which Danny Carroll is co-curator. It comes out tomorrow on digital & vinyl, and we’re pleased to give you a first look at the video for ‘Cheesemonger’. It…

  • Féile Na Gréine Announce 2023 Line-up

The line-up for this year’s Féile Na Gréine has been announced. Doubling up as the Limerick DIY festival’s biggest programme to date, this year’s outing takes over various venues across 18th-20th August 2023. As ever from one of the island’s most tuned-in – and infinitely sound – creative collective and promoters, it’s another wonderfully eclectic, thoroughly stacked line-up of gigs, site-specific performances no workshops across three days and nights. Among this year’s many highlights are a whole host of TTA favourite including Robocobra Quartet (pictured), FONDA, Eimear Reidy and Natalia Beylis, Jane Deasy, Katie Kim, Naive Ted, Search Results and…

  • Inbound: The Personal Vanity Project

Formed during lockdown by producer, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and all-round Limerick indie king Chris Quigley, The Personal Vanity Project is a new proposition sourced from high-spec parts in drummer/vocalist Brendan McInerney (Bleeding Heart Pigeons) and James Reidy (His Father’s Voice) on keyboards/space FX. Quigley gave us the full scoop: “The starting point was me hearing about this rumoured Kevin Shields drum’n’bass record that was never released, which left me thinking, ‘Oh I wonder what that would have sounded like?’. Terrible, really bad. So I made a few bits, but gradually found myself drifting towards something more interesting – which was this…

  • Robocobra Quartet Announce Irish Dates

Acclaimed Belfast experimental jazz-punk project Robocobra Quartet have announced a pair of Irish dates sure to be packed for September. The group set off for Austin for SXSW this weekend, before a further series of festival appearances leading into summer. Their two Irish dates are: Fri 22 Sep – Belfast – Limelight 2…
