Hands down the country’s premier boutique music, culture and arts festival, Electric Picnic, will return this summer, headlined by trip-hop legends Portishead, rejuvenated U.S. hip-hop duo Outkast and Beck. Taking place at Stradbally Estate, Co. Laois from Friday, August 29 to Sunday, August 31, the likes of Chic, Mogwai, Slowdive, St. Vincent and Blondie have also been confirmed to play the annual festival, which celebrates its eleventh anniversary this year. Beginning as a one-day event in 2004, Electric Picnic expanded to a weekend-long festival within a year. Twenty-one new acts including Blondie and Scottish post-rock band Mogwai (pictured) have been announced to played this year’s Electric Picnic festival. Amongst the other new additions set to play at the annual Stradbally Estate festival from Friday, July 29 to August 31 are Sinead O’Connor, James Murphy, Kelis, Neneh Cherry, The Horrors, Duke Dumont, Twin Shadow, Ham Sandwich, Clean Bandit, Drenge, The Orwells, Glass Animals, Wolf Alice, The Districts, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Vancouver Sleep Clinic, Vaults, Benjamin Booker and Moko. Directed by filmmaker William Armstrong, Electric Picnic have released a rather lovely promo video for this year’s festival. Shot on location at last’s festival, the brief yet altogether enchanting piece of film goes some distance to convey the magic of the annual Co. Laois festival, set to take place at Stradbally Estate from Friday August 30 to Sunday September 1. Fatboy Slim, Bjork and Arctic Monkeys will headline the festival, celebrating its 10th birthday.
