    The Irish Museum of Modern Art will host a special event celebrating the role of Black women and non-binary people in the evolution of dance music this week.  Taking place on Thursday 1st September as part of the IMMA Nights series, the free event will explore the often undervalued contributions of Black women and non-binary people throughout the history of dance music – as DJs, producers, promoters, dancers and vocalists – from its origins in cities like Chicago and Detroit in the ‘80s to its global status today. Presented by promoters POD, Meadows Festival is a specially designed, socially-distance and open-air summer series of live music, performance and spoken word.   • Ireland’s First Music Festival in 16 Months Announced For Next Month

    The country’s first music festival in 16 months will take place next month. Hosted by IMMA at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham on Saturday, July 3, the so-called pilot festival event will feature performances by Gavin James, Denise Chaila, Lyra, Sharon Shannon, Wild Youth and Wyvern Lingo. MCed by the 2 Johnnies, the 3,500-capacity event will be laid out in pods of six in order to maintain social distancing. Rapid antigen testing will also be a requirement of entry to the event.     This week is the last to see the dual-exhibitions featuring the works of Vivienne Dick and Nan Goldin in IMMA. To coincide, aemi are presenting Delirious Rhythm 1936-2017, a personal selection of films that have influenced and inspired Dick’s oeuvre. The film will be shown in the IFI, with this one off event beginning at 6:30pm tomorrow. Artists whose works have been selected include Helen Levitt, D.A.     Opening today at 1pm and running until April 6th in IMMA is Symbiosis – the end of year exhibition for 1st years in IADT’s BA Hons. Art programme.     Established in 1943, and growing ever since through a combination of purchases, loans and gifts, the Butler Gallery’s permanent collection is both a broad and varied collation of artistic mediums. This year’s collection presentation is entitled Personae and features pieces on loan from the permanent collection at IMMA, with works by Diane Arbus, Louise Bourgeois, Jackie Nickerson and Thomas Ruff.
