• Live Report: Nollaig na mBan with Katie Kim & Radie Peat ft. Ellie Myler & Spud Murphy

With gigs having gone out the window from last March until god knows when, livestreams have been a godsend in giving us some hint of what we’re otherwise missing out on. While some have been lo-fi DIY affairs, streamed from phones or dodgy webcams in artists’ bedrooms, others have had huge amounts of thought and effort put into them to create an experience that lasts beyond merely scratching the live performance itch for a few months. Here in Ireland, The Mary Wallopers’ streams from their self-built home bar have built an impressive sense of community among their ever higher viewing…

  • Album Premiere: Locked – Locked #1

Locked #1 is a full-length compilation album from Patrick Kelleher and his Cold Dead Hands, Catscars and Everything Shook which has now been made publicly available for the first time. It was originally issued in a strictly limited edition for audience members at their triple bill gig in the BelloBar on 1 July 2017. The title was in reference to the venue’s canal side location in Portobello, Dublin. The decision to make this limited release widely available has been in part due to the Coronavirus causing venue closures, derailing the collectives original intention to perform a sporadic series of concerts at different…

  • Bill Callahan @ Vicar Street, Dublin

I found myself in the smoothest taxi ride I’ve ever fell upon, gliding from leafy Portobello to its friendly neighbour Mr. Vicar Street on a light mellow Sunday evening to witness my first ever Bill Callahan show, having been a long time fan of his work. It was pleasant from the off as I took the role of reviewer and made immediate conversation with fans of all kinds outside, soaking up all their knowledge like a musical magnetic sponge. There was Ben all the way from the USA who raved about the crazy support band Dallas Acid, whom he enthusiastically described as “……

  • Nealo w/ C.o.B and Jeorge II @ The Grand Social, Dublin

In the crowded smoking area of The Grand Social, fans and members of Ireland’s Hip Hop scene have congregated for a triple threat from some of the community’s heavy hitters. Tickets are presented at the door, wrists are stamped and drink is confiscated from a few younger attendees. Starting off the evening is Cork native C.o.B. Blasting the audience with a blend of old school horrorcore and contemporary trap beats, C.o.B parades the stage thrashing about whilst illuminated by glaring red visuals. While it may not be everybody’s cup of tea, a select few audience members at the base of…

  • Chromatic – Episode 2: Tandem Felix

We’re pleased to premiere the second episode of our collaboration with Chromatic – a Dublin-based duo who film performances using unique spaces as visual and acoustic backdrops, featuring Tandem Felix as they perform ‘Making Dinner on Valentine’s Day’ in the Forgotten Village in Dublin. “This is a song I heard when they opened for Steve Malkmus & The Jicks back in October 2018. I remember the song well, due to its strong visual word painting throughout. I couldn’t get the song or the visualization of walking around the city, foraging for the various ingredients needed to make the meal. It’s sung and paced in such…
