With The National already announced, it’s been revealed that Bon Iver will play Cork’s Sounds from a Safe Harbour festival on Friday, September 15. Set to return from September 14-17, more acts for the annual festival – which is curated by Bryce & Aaron Dessner, Cillian Murphy, Enda Walsh and Mary Hicksonare – are yet to be announced. Tickets go on sale via the Cork Opera House website on Wednesday, June 21 at 10am.

A curious highlight in the programme of the inaugural Sounds From A Safe Harbour festival, Cork-based graphic designer, artist and co-founder of Fractured Air, Craig Carry will host a new exhibition, Slenders Songs, at Cork’s FILTER Cafe from September 16-October 16. Comprised of twenty prints based upon a selection of musicians taking part in Sounds From A Safe Harbour, the exhibition (see samples of the artwork above and below) is named after Seán Mac Erlaine’s sublime A Slender Song album. While Sounds from a Safe Harbour brings many high-profile and international acts to Cork City as part of a wide-ranging ticket, the real gems of the festival lie in the presence on the bill of some of the city and country’s independent bands and artists, once again mostly placed on a “music trail” as a secondary attraction (see also: MTV “hitting” Cork).
