In this installment of AAA, we go behind the scenes with comedy trio Foil, Arms and Hog live at their sell out show at Vicar Street in Dublin. Fresh off their slot on Jason Byrne‘s Snaptastic telly show, the lads had the entire venue on its feet by the end of their set which marked their 7th year together. The show included a wide variety of sketches, from old favourites to new material, culminating in crafted and well earned punchlines, sometimes with unexpected results thrown in thanks to a snorting or cackaling member of the crowd. Their comfort and experience in the packed room was evident, often venturing into the audience and engaging with specific people. Everyone felt involved and included in this show, with mock leaving cert answer-sheets to be handed up at the interval a particularly nice touch, adding an extra level of engagement to this celebration. They took the time to watch warm-up John Colleary’s witty and self-deprecating set, and mingled with fans afterwards while signing DVDs of last year’s show. Their character based humour is a comedy of contrasts; wacky but intelligent, enthusiastic with dark undertones, topical yet steeped in classic precedents. Photos by Ste Murray.
