In the second of our sporadic guest mixes from our favourite DJs and artists from the island of Ireland, we have a fascinating tread through the library of an act that’s on the cusp of something big. Dublin-based duo Forrests released their debut Wilder on Blast First Petite a few years back, and after some time spent gigging and writing, they’re back with Organs. Self-released, it’s a glorious barrel of noise and beauty. They’ve put together a really excellent mix for us, moving from electronic forebears Throbbing Gristle and Laurie Spiegel to present-day luminaries Leon Vynehall, Willie Burns and Mica Levi.

Ntwrk presents Nina Kraviz & Bjarki at The Nerve Centre
Friday 23 October
Nina Kraviz comes to Derry tonight, with трип artist Bjarki in tow. We all know Nina’s prowess, and Bjarki hit big with I Wanna Go Bang, from his Arthur And Intergalactic Whales release on Nina’s label. It should bang, so.
Republik X present PAN-POT / Ame / Gerd Janson / Ian Pooley at Crystal Night Club
Sunday 25 October
This one is stupidly big. Prolific Germans Pan-Pot (who also play District 8 in Dublin tomorrow) join their countrymen Âme, Gerd Janson (of Running Back and Tuff City Kids fame) and a resurgent Ian Pooley for a whopper night of house and techno in Waterford.
Pyg Sundays presents Tim Sweeney [BIS/DFA Records] at Pygmalion
Sunday 25 October
The weekly Beats in Space show on New York’s WNYU-FM has been running every Tuesday for nearly two decades, and all the while its host Tim Sweeney has quietly but assuredly been plying his craft as an under-the-radar jet-set superstar. He’s playing at Pygmalion alongside local residents Niall D’Arcy and Colin Perkins (as Decent Perks) for what should be a fun party.
TRACKS
Midland – Pressure (Converse Rubber Tracks)
Midland, who played Belfast last weekend, dropped this interesting number during the week. Composed of samples culled from a royalty-free sample library overseen by Converse of all people, it’s pretty jacking, with Eastern melodic elements clashing with rugged percussive throng.
rRoxymore – DFF
Berlin resident rRoxymore debuts this new track taken from her forthcoming Tautologies release on Macro Records. It’s a rolling hypnotic groover that’s somehow both beguiling and heavy.

MIXES
Solid Steel Radio Show 23/10/2015 Hour 1 – Avalon Emerson
Berlin-based coder/producer/DJ Avalon Emerson contributes this entry for Solid Steel Radio, running from exuberant disco and solid house into 80s pop and ending up with some operatic synth by way of some bombastic percussive jams. Lots to take in, even more to enjoy.
Akkord – Obelisk
Akkord drop this succinct two-track 10″ for Houndstooth and oh my, it bangs. Side A, ‘Monolith’, is sparse and urgent, while the flip ‘Megalith’ is suitably heavy, exploring cavernous sounds with intermittent familiar percussive samples.
