Rave New World (24/06)

via app the thin air

There’s a strange mood in the air. All we can do is give you some music to help you get through it, as Aidan Hanratty delivers a look at the best electronic gigs, tracks and mixes of the week.

Gigs

Inside Moves 1st Birthday with Maurice Fulton at The Belfast Empire Music Hall
Friday 24 June

The legendary Maurice Fulton is playing this island twice this weekend (he’s in Dublin for Discotekken’s Pride event tomorrow), bringing a wealth of experience to the dance. I only learned this week that he was behind ‘Gypsy Woman’, a veritable classic. That’s on top of his stuff as Mu and Syclops, of course. See here for a run-down of his career highlights.

Mother: Pride Block Party, The Tivoli Theatre, Dublin
Saturday 25 June

Speaking of Pride, Mother have a huge thing going on tomorrow, with a block party taking place at the Tivoli. Not exactly underground, but it’s sure to be a riotous affair. Little Boots and the Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears will be playing alongside Kelly Anne Byrne and the Mother DJs, while there will also be live sets from Irish acts Wyvern Lingo and Faune.

Tracks

DJ GUY – Structures + Rhythms 94 – 99 (White Peak Rework) [Organic Analogue]

Organic Analogue have just put out a super package of music from DJ Guy – a tape of 90s archive cuts and a 12″ of newer material. White Peak took all the tracks and fashioned this superb rework, full of heady rave samples and exhilarating bass swell. Definitely grab the release, if you can. If there are any left!

Leibniz – Loser Track that will never get a release

This amusingly titled track is quite a belter, a rolling techno number with synths that ebb and flow while energised percussion steers if forth. Enlivening stuff for late nights.

Mixes

Via App – Sustain-Release x Unsound NY live set

New York talent Via App has shared a live set she performed at Unsound in Brooklyn earlier this month. It’s a blistering affair, hard to call dance music despite its pummelling 4/4 thrust. Confusion reigns in this hour-long mechanical exploration.

Studio OST – rejected mix for dekmantel

Studio OST, aka Galcher Lustwerk and Alvin Aronson, shared this mix earlier this week, going by the title, well, you get the idea. No idea why it was rejected, it’s a breezy trip through modern house. Dekmantel, what’s good?!

Ishan Sound – Hotline Mix [Tape-Echo]

This Hotline Mix from Ishan Sound for the Tape Echo crew is a delight, a thrilling dive through dub and dancehall that should perk you right up.
