Dublin Digital Radio have announced the return of its annual celebration of sound artists, electronic experimenters and DJs, Alternating Current.

Coming a year from its exceptional inaugural outing, the second iteration of the festival will return to the airwaves and Dublin city this October. Beginning on the 28th, the programme will feature specially commissioned radiowork by artist and resident of the station, Aisling-Ór Ní Aodha, which will be broadcast on ddr.

On Saturday, 29th, the event will once again take over the Depot at The Complex in Dublin City. Divided into two concerts – Deep Listening and Beyond the Human – the likes of BABY NITS, BLACKMAGICRAWR, Colm Keady-Tabbal, David Donohoe, ELLLL, Howlbux (Irene Buckley and Elaine Howley), Maija SofiaStephen McEvoy as well as Diarmuid MacDiarmada, Clumsy Giantess and Warmer Climes will perform between 3-11pm. Then, as per tradition, onto another venue TBC for DJs until late.

Inspired by the writings of James Bridle and Pauline Oliveros, the theme for this year’s Alternating Current is Beyond Human Intelligence. (“The crisis of global warming is a crisis of the mind, a crisis of thought, a crisis in our ability to think another way to be,” writes Bridle.)

Tickets for Alternating Current are €15 for Patrons and €22.50 for non-Patrons. Sign up to be a patron here.

“Alternating Current is Dublin Digital Radio’s response to the experimenters in sound who are both residents of the station or friends of the station,” said ddr.’s Seán Finnan. “It’s a one day celebration of new music specifically created for The Complex’s vast warehouse space and we’re really excited to share this new work in such beautiful surroundings.”
