Open Ear Festival is set to return next year.
Almost certainly the island’s finest small music festival – and without a doubt our favourite – it will return to Sherkin Island off Cork for its sixth edition on the June bank holiday weekend, 31st May to 2nd June 2024.
As with previous years, the festival is set to host a perfectly pitched celebration of the fringes of Ireland’s experimental and electronic music communities. Following a back-to-basics outing in 2022, the 2024 edition will see the festival return to exploring a range of wonderful spaces and environs across Sherkin Island.
In a statement, organisers said: “The island has always been an intrinsic part of the festival and next year will see us continue to develop and build on this relationship.”
They added: “2024 will also see the festival reach out to like-minded international communities, inviting a selection of artists to perform in Ireland for the first time. As ever, the vast majority of performers in 2024 will have never played at Open Ear before, eschewing the idea that festivals have to be populated with the familiar.”
With the full announcement to be announced in the coming weeks and months, the festival drew attention to its first-ever public call-out for emerging artists and musicians, which was open to those who have never performed live in public before.
Set to be announced at the start of next year, the festival will mentor the artist(s) in production and performance from scratch to the stage.
Tickets for Open Ear ’24 go on sale at 10am this Thursday, 14th December with the following prices:
