Myriad acts earmarked as “ones to watch” have, by virtue of any number of factors – both real and imaginary – have ceased to exist since time immemorial. Such is the way of the music industry; that cripplingly fickle clusterfuck of a fever dream that many of us, for one reason or another, dedicate a sizable portion of our lives to with little to no recompense, fiscal, metaphysical, or otherwise. And frankly, we wouldn’t have it any other way, for it’s more or less all in the pursuit.

Which conveniently brings us to YARD, a Dublin quartet kneeling (and very well at that) at the altar of fellow mangled noise wranglers par excellence Suuns, Gilla Band, Death Grips and more. Having drip-feed material over the last couple of years, their new single ‘Lawmaker’ doubles as an emphatic arrival. Like sonically splitting the atom, its fist-clenched meld of techno, noise and industrial peaks and pummels in all the right places. Myriad acts earmarked as “ones to watch” have ceased to exist since time immemorial, but – mark our fustian, caffeine-informed praise – YARD won’t be one of them.

Here’s a first look at Ben O’Neill’s video for the single, which was recorded with Rian Trench and Robert Watson at the Meadow.
