Fans of Minneapolis punk rock heroes The Replacements, lend us your ears. On Thursday, April 19, some very familiar faces will get together to perform the songs of the legendary, Paul Westerberg-fronted band (pictured, above) upstairs in Whelan’s. With all proceeds in aid of Women’s Aid, Villagers’ Conor O’Brien, James Vincent McMorrow, SOAK’s James Byrne, Conor Lumsden of The No. 1s and The Immediate’s Peter Toomey will flanked with the Young Hearts Run Free DJs on the night. A brand new regular event featuring female DJs spinning the best chill, downtempo music from the realms of electronic music, indie rock and much more, the first ever Sad Gals Club will take place at Gulpd Cafe in Triskel Arts Centre, Cork on Sunday, April 16. On the eve of International Women’s Day 2017 this Tuesday, March 7, MINE – a unique anthology of art, comics and illustrations in support of the Abortion Rights Campaign – will launch at Dublin’s Workman’s Club. With over 30 contributors, the stories and art within the pages of the publication represent creative responses to the struggle for repealing the eighth amendment in Ireland from a wide range of perspectives, both female and male. On Saturday, March 4, Derry’s Nerve Centre will host a Musical Celebration of sadly-missed singer-songwriter Stevie Martin AKA Rainy Boy Sleep. With all profits in aid of Pieta House, And So I Watch You From Afar, Making Monsters, The Wood Burning Savages, John Deery & The Heads, Furlo, Waldorf & Cannon, Rosborough, Susie-Blue, Shoot The Messenger, August and Allie Bradley will all perform in honour of the late Northern Irish artist, who passed in August last year. Having declared “No More Delays – Name the Date for a Referendum”, the Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment will organise and spearhead a huge march this International Women’s Day (Wednesday, March 8) from Dublin’s Garden of Remembrance at Parnell Square East. Asking the public to “demand a Referendum to Repeal the Eighth Amendment and respect women’s lives, health and choices” the march will kick off at 5.30pm and run until 7.30pm. As part of this year’s International Women’s Day on March 8, Belfast’s the MAC will host The Missing Voice, a special two-part panel and performance event. Kicking off with the launch and live recording of a new podcast series ‘The Missing Voice’ produced by Belfast-based musician Isobel Anderson (pictured), the night will also feature performances from Anderson, DIE HEXEN and Little Green Cars‘ Faye O’Rourke.
