  • Track Record: Robbie Stickland

In this installment of Track Record, Robbie Stickland selects the records that have left a lasting impression on his life from Angel Olsen to Big Star. Photos by Kate Lawlor. Angel Olsen- My Woman It was late 2016, I had just suffered what can only be described as an epic heartbreak. As I walked through this new maelstrom thrusted upon me, this album descended from the heavens, put its hand on my shoulder, looked me in the eye and said “I know.” Angel Olsen is a master of hard truths via delicate expression and this record best showcases that. • Sinead O’Brien at Cyprus Avenue, Cork

Fresh off the release of her debut album Time Bend And Break The Bower, Sinead O’Brien brings her hypnotic performance and affecting spoken-word lyricism to Cork’s Cyprus Avenue. Blending apocalyptic soothsaying with mythological allegory, O’Brien’s lyrics create a profound experience on their own, but combined with the driving guitar and drums of her band (Julian Hanson and Oscar Robertson) they create an aural meditation that washes over you before hitting you in the gut. Recent tracks like ‘End Of Days’ and ‘Most Modern Painting’ get the set going as O’Brien draws the crowd closer to the stage. On stage she…

  • Video Premiere: Meljoann – Secrets

Avant-pop sensation and all round TTA favourite Meljoann is back with another creative self directed and produced video for ‘Secrets’, the second release in a succession of singles. The video features an all too familiar setting of a 90’s style day time talk show with a whole host of Mel-tiverse characters that fans of her ongoing Mustics clips would surely recognise. Speaking about the video, Meljoann said: “Using the magic of reality TV editing to my advantage, I made it look like my Talk Show debut was a triumph. When in fact, it was the most embarrassing experience of my entire life” Have a first look below!
