• Visual Arts Outlook (13/10)

Whilst this week sets in to be one of the quieter weeks in October we are going to see a whole wealth of events taking place towards the end of the month to get your creative juices flowing. This Saturday afternoon at 2pm Catalyst Arts Belfast is holding an Artist’s talk with Jacqueline Holt as part of the ‘Composition of Here’ show. Well worth a visit on your stroll around town. Next weekend from the 23rd to the 24th is the hugely anticipated “Open Studios” in Belfast. Hosted by Visual Artists in Northern Ireland and sponsored by Suki Tea, this…

  • Visual Arts Outlook (18/8)

We are at that midpoint in the month where things tend to quiet down a bit. However, don’t panic, I do have some recommendations to whet your artistic appetite for the week. If you’re feeling like a party on Friday night head out to Public Indecency a Fundraiser for Household Collective at the Hudson Bar Belfast on Friday Night. This is sure to be a good party hosted by the wonderful Venus Dupree. Household is a curatorial collective based in Belfast who are currently planning for an exciting  three day programme of screenings and events at the beginning of September…

  • Visual Arts Outlook (4/8)

So after a longer than intended yet still brief hiatus (when I say hiatus I mean holidays in the rain!), I’m back with all your Visual Arts events, wants and needs. As usual July was a quiet month, with many shows continuing on, or galleries preparing for the busy Autumn period (don’t worry – I know we’re not there yet). The beginning of August sees lots of new events on the Irish art scene, including a three day exhibition at Pollen, The Lime Walk Project featuring work by Aiden Deery, Gail Mahon, Heather Dornan Wilson, Stuart Cairns, Alice Clarke and…

  • Visual Arts Outlook (23/6)

In the middle of the month we have many exhibitions that are ongoing, with less openings this week, writes Mary Stevens. The BASS Belfast Artists’ Sonic Showcase Event #5 Alice Burns, Saul Rayson and Helena Hamilton, will certainly be a great night and takes place on Saturday evening at 7pm at FRAMEWERK. We also have the continuation of To Camera at the Golden Thread and Silent Valley by Liam Crichton at Platform Arts in Belfast, so if you haven’t seen them yet I would recommend a visit. Project Arts Center – Dublin Riddle of the Burial Ground 11 June -01…

  • Visual Arts Outlook (23/3)

In the first of a new weekly feature, Mary Stevens delivers a weekly Visual Arts Outlook, featuring an Stuart Brisley’s Headwinds, an exhibition by Niall de Buitléar and Get In Lane at Belfast’s Catalyst Arts, which refers to “the stifling necessity for graduates to decide on their future direction.” The Mac Belfast Stuart Brisley – Headwinds. Panel Discussion: The Cenotaph Project & The Public Sphere. Thursday March 26 – 7.30 – Booking Required. It’s refreshing to see the Mac opening an academic discussion around the current show Headwinds by Stuart Brisley. This event invites Stuart Brisley, Maya Balcioglu, Dr Sanja Perovic,…
