  • The Thin Air Top 100 Irish Tracks of 2014 (100-75)

Twelve months, a billion tracks (probably) and a ridiculously impressive crop of new, emerging musical talent the island of Ireland over: yes, 2014 was been very generous indeed on the ol’ new music front. In a year when (the altogether sonically disparate) Girl Band and SOAK signed with Rough Trade, Adebisi Shank broke hearts in parting ways and Hozier “did a Kodaline” by going positively stratospheric – more on that later – innumerable lesser-known acts have also been slogging away in the garage, creating some of the very best sounds here or anywhere else on the face on the planet. Go here for the Oxjam Takeover Facebook event page and watch the video below.

  • Watch: Floor Staff – The Guest

Having released their Gift Horse/Brother to God Double A-Side last week, Dublin alt-pop Floor Staff have unveiled the equal parts frightening and ingenuous video for ‘The Guest’. A video about two expecting parents coming to term with the fact their baby is going to be a musician, it was created by Irish video director Bob Gallagher. Speaking about the video, Gallagher said, “It actually came about during an interaction I had with a shaman where I took part in an ayahuasca ritual. It’s a powerful hallucinogen that lasts for a few hours. I had a lot of different experiences during that…

  • Floor Staff – The Good Luck EP

It’s really difficult to write good pop music; unlike most other genres, great pop requires a level of clarity of vision and perfection that can be cripplingly hard. So it’s always a real treat when exciting pop music lands straight on your lap. With their debut release, The Good Luck EP, Dublin duo Floor Staff have given the world a proper Summer treat. Working with a kitchen sink mentality, the EP mixes emotionally volatile vocals, tight and powerful rhythms and a cracking brass section with effortless effect. The production and mixing is one of the most laudable aspects of the…
