For Those I Love, aka David Balfe, has won this year’s RTÉ Choice Music Prize. Off the back of performing three tracks at the event, which was held live at Dublin’s Vicar Street, Balfe scooped the prize for his self-titled 2021 LP. The Dubliner walked away with the prize – which was presented in association with IMRO and IRMA – as well as €10,000. Balfe beat off stiff competition in this year’s shortlist, which also featured the likes of Villagers, Bicep, Kojague, Saint Sister, Elaine Mai and more. Revisit For Those I Love in full below.

For Those I Love was initially released in the summer of 2019 to very little fanfare. Uploaded by its creator, David Balfe, to Bandcamp and a few other places, the intention was to simply share it with his friends and put it out there. Other Voices have announced a new digital festival. The Irish live music institution today revealed details of Bringing It All Back Home, a five-day festival coming in December. Though full dates and acts are yet to be confirmed, organisers have already confirmed appearances from For Those I Love, Niamh Regan, Luz, Nealo, Rhiannon Giddens, Francesco Turrisi, Peter Broderick and Pillow Queens.
