Almost two decades since launching his electronic solo career (alongside his work in post-rock band Fridge) Kieran Hebden – AKA Four Tet – has become something of an icon of the genre. Originally pioneering ‘folktronica’ – a label he was never keen on but which attempts to describe his electronic manipulation of acoustic instruments and samples on early 2000s albums like Pause and Rounds – more recent records like Beautiful Rewind have seen him shift his focus from the bedroom to the club, moving further in the direction of downtempo house, all while working on collaborations with the likes of…

“If you’re all about the destination, then take a fucking flight” Frank Turner, The Ballad of Me and My Friends What strange and lovely little surprise is this? On June 21, English electronic musician Four Tet quietly released his latest LP, Morning/Evening, via Bandcamp. No fanfare, no big press tour, just the songs available in a free format, which is really an absolutely splendid little treat from one of the more intriguing electronic artists of the last 10 years. The sun continues to bless Optimus Primavera Sound on the festival’s second day. Arriving on site in the late afternoon there’s ample time to have a cocktail from one of the stalls dotted around the Parque da Cicade before the day’s schedule begins, and with a nice strong caipirinha costing a mere €4 it would be rude not to. People-watching whilst sipping on a drink and strolling around is an oddly compelling pastime, but it’s best to conserve energy for the moment as today sees a further two stage areas opened up to the public – the ATP Stage and the…

Headlined by Kasabian on the Saturday, June 1 and Primal Scream the following night, Forbidden Fruit Festival – set to take place on the grounds of Royal Hospital Kilmainhaim, Dublin – will also features a whole host of eclectic talent; everyone from Chic to James Blake to Four Tet and Crystal Castles. Homegrown acts including Tieranniesaur, Fight Like Apes and Le Galaxie are also set to perform. Progressively establishing itself as something of a contender to Electric Picnic’s one time insurmountable might, the whole thing will take place over four stages over the June Bank Holiday weekend. Tickets for the…
