If you were fortunate enough to catch Invaderband in Belfast or their hometown of Derry at the weekend, you’ll be well aware that they’re a band well and truly at the peak of their powers. Fronted by Adam Leonard, the band are masters at writing clever and considered art-rock, yet never at the expense of a lack of vanity that continues to set them apart. This resistance to kneejerk pretension, in a realm so casually fraught with it, is mirrored in their new single ‘Cheese Slices’. Having won the approval of various BBC 6 Music broadcasters among others, the single…

Blessedly, we have a pair of tickets to give away to see easily one of the island’s finest art-rock propositions, Invaderband, at McHughs in Belfast this Friday, June 17th. Helmed by Adam Leonard, and featuring the likes of TTA favourite Chris McConaghy aka Our Krypton Son, the Derry quartet are rising a fresh wave off the back of their 6Music (and elsewhere)-approved new single ‘Cheese Slices’. Check it below and keep an eye peeled for a video premiere soon. To be in with a chance of catching the band – with support from Selador and Matt McCrum – at McHughs,…

As the North’s premier – and most downright consistent – art-punk proposition, Invaderband have always delivered. Fronted by Adam Leonard, and featuring the likes of TTA favourite Chris McConaghy, AKA Our Krypton Son, the Derry quartet honour the lineage of (not to mention put their own twist on) post-punk more than any overhyped clan of boys from the Pale ever could. You need not look much further than the band’s new single ‘Handcuffed Man Shoots Himself’. Conjuring everyone from Gang of Four and Swell Maps, to Stranglers and early Blur, it’s a stellar anti-anthem on police brutality that distils Invaderband’s equal parts…

One of the most idiosyncratic garage/art-rock propositions anywhere on the island, Invaderband is the music-making moniker of Derry-based Mancunian Adam Leonard. Backed by the likes of fellow Derry artist Chris McConaghy aka Our Krypton Son on guitar, he’s been responsible for some irrestisible punk-pop gems over the last few years. Clocking in at just over two minutes, new single ‘I Won’t Remember You’ is a textbook case in point. The lead single from the band’s second LP, Peter Gabriel, it’s a breakneck burst of garage-pop evoking late-70s English punk immediacy à la Buzzcocks and Wire. Speaking about the track, Leonard said, “It’s not about…
