• Premiere: Goodtime John – Beauty & Chaos

Also known as J. Cowhie and GOODTIME, Dublin experimental folk singer-songwriter Goodtime John has long had a remarkable knack for excavating the unspeakable pangs of what it means to exist, survive, forgive, suffer and let go. And though he could surely do it in a much showier manner, it’s in skeletal, largely unadorned compositions where his art and truth comes into sharp focus. On June 24th, he will release a new five-track record, Beauty & Chaos. Recorded completely analogue using only vintage hardware, guitar and drum machine by Emil Isaksson in Studio Möllan in Malmö, love, loss, home, struggle and “being present in today’s over-complicated world” are,…

  • Download: J. Cowhie – New Life

Having released one of our favourite Irish albums of 2016 in Veil, Dublin’s J. Cowhie joined many artists around the world in contributing to the ACLU fundraiser on Bandcamp last Friday via his single ‘New Life’. With 100% of the proceeds for the pay-what-you-like single going to the Union (who are working to fully oppose the Executive Order barring immigrants and refugees from seven Middle Eastern countries from entering the United States) it finds Cowhie –  who formerly made music as GOODTIME/Goodtime John – in typically ruminative, Papa M-esue form, relaying a tale of uncertain days and sin. An album about loss, change and the “responsibilities that come to us all in our lives whether we…

  • Watch: J. Cowhie – Long Way Home

Formerly known as GOODTIME/Goodtime John, Dublin “alternative electronic experimental folk” singer-songwriter J. Cowhie has played shows and toured with (deep breath) Bonnie Prince Billy, Smog, Mount Eerie, Cass McCombs, White Magic, Television, Midlake, Bright Eyes, M. Ward, John Grant, Warpaint, Grandaddy, Richard Hawley, Múm, Richard Swift, Little Wings, The American Analog Set, Micah P. Hinson, Mark Kozelek and Giant Sand (to name a few). An artist of wonderfully subtle persuasion, he has re-emerged with the soothing groove of new single ‘Long Way Home’. Taken from the forthcoming album, Veil, its rather charming video was shot and edited by John B. McKenna. Veil is released via RITE…
