Acclaimed Belfast experimental jazz-punk project Robocobra Quartet have announced a pair of Irish dates sure to be packed for September. This follows a year that’s seen them win the NI Music Prize for their phenomenal third LP, Living Isn’t Easy, and continue touring international clubs and festivals alike; meanwhile frontman/drummer Chris W Ryan has quickly become one of the most in-demand producers in Ireland for his work on the likes of Just Mustard and NewDad. The third annual Merchy Christmas takes over the Grand Social this weekend. Organised by One Stop Band Shop, it’s set to be another unmissable two days at the Dublin venue, with over 60 Irish acts coming together to sell their merch for a great cause. Taking place from 11am to 5pm on Saturday, 17th December and Sunday 18th, the get-together will feature pop-up stalls Aoife Nessa Frances, Gilla Band, Lankum, Junior Brother, Loah, Acid Granny, Gemma Dunleavy and many more. Returning for its second consecutive year, Merchy Christmas will take over Dublin’s Grand Social later this month to throw Irish artists a lifeline in the face of the huge challenges presented by COVID-19. Ahead of what is set to be a monstrous midnight show tomorrow night (19th May) in The Grand Social, Dublin’s cosmic heft overlords No Spill Blood have shared a brand new track in the form of ‘Ossein’ Recorded as part of a live session in Guerrilla Studios Dublin this month, the synth-doom, Komische, prog behemoths have served up another dose of world-swallowing energy marked by Matt Hedigan’s frightening howl, Ruadhan O’Meara’s trademark synths and Ror Conaty’s propulsive drums. With my ears having gone through the mill during night one of Reverberation, it was only right to see if they could last for the duration of round two! First up to the mound was Derry duo Fabric, who really falls into the post-punk side of things as opposed to psych rock. Ruairi Coyle (Percussion/Drums & Backing Vocals) and Lorcan Hamilton (Bass & Lead Vocals) manage to put on quite the performance, which considering the low turnout for their slot, they can only be applauded for.
