Fast-rising Belfast heavy pop band THVS have unveiled the video to new single, ‘Palisades’. From the get-go, it’s a blistering, riff-fuelled statement of intent from the Michael Smyth-fronted trio. Taken from their forthcoming debut album Fevers, the single’s video was shot at MSI Studios and THVS HQ “on a temperate May Sunday afternoon” by Bob Logan. Check it out below. Fevers is released on October 7. THVS play Pavilion in Belfast on Friday, August 30.

Ahead of the release of its video next week, Belfast trio THVS have just released their latest and greatest track to date, ‘Palisades’. Following on from last year’s promising three-tracker Plague Widows, it makes for a suitably emphatic three-minute blast of breakneck, riff-fuelled abandon from the self-proclaimed “heavy pop” trio. Read our recent interview with the band here and check out the single (along with a live version of ‘Neon Demons’) below. ‘Palisades’ is launched at Belfast’s Limelight 2 tomorrow (August 17th) alongside Conjecture 42 and Gas Hands. Doors are at 5pm.

Ahead of the release of their eagerly-anticipated debut album in Belfast’s Voodoo on October 12, we catch up with THVS, a Belfast-based three-piece whose emphatic “heavy pop” craft is on the very cusp of breaking through. THVS straddle a line between heavy sounds and pop music sensibility. How has the project evolved from your previous incarnations? Michael: I think that very part of it in and of itself is the evolution, the pop sensibility. In any previous band I’ve been in that was very much balked at so I think that step has lead us to a wider sound. Who…

Making its return for the first time in many years, Belfast’s alternative, inclusive Twelfth of July proceeding Curfew, takes place across two of Belfast’s finest small venues – The Black Box & Voodoo. The whole day is kindly run by original runner Pete Jez’ Solid Choice Industries. In direct opposition of ‘the other one’, we don’t have to pretend to enjoy the rad tunes. The only cultural division to be seen is in the cross-genre venue booking -Voodoo is set to host the riff-centric acts, headed by Dublin’s synth-driven space-metal trio No Spill Blood, sludgy heavy rock trio Slomatics, Dublin hardcore act Destriers, space punks Wild Rocket, sludge-doom act Nomadic…

Forming from the embers of Belfast riff-wielding institution Comply or Die, heavy rock three-piece THVS are on the precipice of completing the first stage of their instantly ear-grabbing metamorphosis. Officially released on Friday (July 17), we’re pleased to present a first listen of their expectedly visceral four-track EP, Everyday Hexes, also chatting to frontman Michael Smyth about the writing and recording of the EP, the formation of the band and their plans for the future. Hi Michael. First thing’s first, how did THVS come about? The band came about after a band practice got cancelled so Matt and I decided to go up and play anyway.…

Let’s face it – who doesn’t like to brag about their record collection? In this, the latest installment of Track Record, the toweringly tasteful Michael Smyth, ex-Comply or Die commander-in-riff and current THVS frontman/Tusks sticksman, takes Liam Kielt – and you, our ever-informed readership – on an illustrious ramble through his sweet record collection. Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit 7” First one, a classic! I know it’s a single but this is the first record I ever bought. I got this in Hector’s House – I really miss that place. When I first got into music, properly, my friend gave me a copy…

A riff-fueled local triptych – Spittin’ Teeth, Acid Age and THVS – delivered heaps of noise and intent at Breed at Belfast’s The Pavilion on Friday, July 25. Our photographer Liam Kielt was there to capture all three acts on the night.
