• More acts announced for Sunflower Fest

    With the likes of the Bonnevilles and Pocket Billiards already confirmed, several new acts have been announced to play this year’s Sunflower Fest. With more bands and artists to be announced, Million $ Reload (pictured), Wonder Villains, Mutefish, Michael Mormecha, Henry Cluney Band, Amanda St John, Magwere, Suzanne Savage Quartet, Go Swim, More Dogs Barking, Love Street and High Flying Words are the latest additions to the annual Hillsborough festival, taking place from August 22-25.   • Thirty-five new acts announced for Longitude

    With an already impressive line-up on the cards, thirty-five more acts have been announced to play the second outing for Longitude festival in Dublin’s Marlay Park this Summer. Amongst the new acts unveiled earlier today are Greg Dulli’s rejuvenated The Afghan Whigs (pictured), Nebraskan singer-songwriter Conor Oberst and Irish folk-pop duo Hudson Taylor.   • The Antlers Announce Dublin Show

    Brooklyn indie rockers The Antlers will be paying Dublin a visit this October this coincides with the release of the band’s fifth studio album, Familiars, due for release in June. The show will take place on October 10 at the Olympia Theatre, with tickets priced at €22.50. These go on sale this Friday May 9 at 9am. Last month The Antlers unveiled the video for ‘Palace’, the first single to be taken from Familiars. Watch it below.

    Currently simmering under the radar, Dublin three-piece The Elephant Room have released their rather idiosyncratic new ten-track album, Body. With hints of everyone from Wilco, Sebadoh (namely ‘Valley’) Soul Coughing and Sparklehorse, the distinctly lo-fi quality that pervades the record works very much in its favour, primitive keyboards, fuzzy chord progressions and knowingly elemental experimentation all lending to the charms of this somewhat unpredictable release.     Currently on tour in England, Northern Irish singer-songwriter Tony Wright AKA VerseChorusVerse has unveiled the video to his latest single, the wonderfully dark ‘Three’. Created by Industrious Dark – the team behind Wright’s videos for  ‘No More Years‘ and ‘Nothing is Easy‘ – it was shot in Wright’s Grandmothers old house and in Edinburgh.     Ahead of their official launch at Belfast’s Menagerie on Thursday, May 15, new Northern Irish label OLD FANG have unveiled their first live session, featuring a performance of Kodaline’s breakthrough single ‘All I Want’ by singer-songwriter Callum Cairns AKA Little Rivers and guest vocalist Jess Brien. The two-track session was filmed by Brian O’Kane of SixteenPixels and recorded/mixed by Mike Mormecha at Millbank Studios. Richard Elder mastered the recording.     Directed, shot and edited by the visual maestros at Feel Good Lost, Cork singer-songwriter Eoin French AKA Talos has released a suitably understated video of him performing a wonderfully delicate version of ‘Tethered Bones’. Reminiscent of the likes of Perfume Genius and the Antlers, the stripped-back rendition of the debut track sees French’s vocals take centre stage, the original track’s percussion inflections and electronic tangents purified to a gripping four and a half minute of serene performance.
