What better way to kick of the July than with German beer, super sunny skies, BBQs and some hardcore and metal? Takingplace on the first weekend of July in Roitzschjora Airfield, Löbnitz, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, With Full Force sees its twenty-first outing this weekend, packing in some of the very best acts in their respective, varyingly heavy fields. I fly in to Berlin the day before to avoid the bulk of people who normally arrive on the first day, catching a coach down to Liepzig and spending the journey joking and discussing bands with two other festival goers. Having met with…

It’s hard to be an independent record label in 2014. Between the slow, fluctuating, apparent demise of the CD, the hyper-commercialisation of alternative cultures and the fact that the average modern music consumer has the attention span of a five year old after a can of Monster, it’s a struggle for even the most robust, stubborn indie label to stay indie and stay functional. Today, the decision of a young person deciding to focus their career on working with and financing small bands is seen as admirable – it’s a sweet idea, but they’ll eventually give up and get a…

Will Wiesenfeld, the ambient electronic producer more commonly known as Baths, has released a new full-length album under the alias Geotic, entitled Morning Shore. The producer has been treating us to impossibly pretty electronic music since 2010, and his second release, 2013’s Obsidian received widespread critical acclaim. With this more recent project, the relaxing loop-based songs are more natural and revolve around acoustic guitar, in the style of producers such as Bibio and Tycho. Morning Shore is the first in a line of planned releases entitled Eon Isle, each to be based around a single instrument, and after hearing this first…

With their debut album, Too Rich For Our Blood, set for release in October, Dublin indie rock band Women’s Christmas have signed to one of the country’s finest independent labels, Out On a Limb. Comprised of members of Jogging, No Monster Club and Villagers (Son Christmas, Boy Christmas and Kid Christmas), the three-piece formed in 2013 with the aim to “capitalise on The Replacements reunion and possible accompanying wave of nostalgia for scrappy out-dated boozy alt-rock”. Fair play, we say. Women’s Christmas launch Too Rich For Our Blood at Dublin’s The Pop Inn on Friday, October 17, supported by Night Trap…
