GIGS

Melodic presents: Marcus Worgull at Hangar
Friday 11 September
Innervisions member Marcus Worgull is a dab hand at sultry deep house, emotive and emphatic. Tears on the floor kinda stuff.

Subject x The Building Society – Perc & Jon Hussey at Hangar
Saturday 12 September
No messing around at Hangar this weekend. Perc won’t have you in tears, save from sheer exhaustion. Expect heavy bangers.

Twitch – Joy Orbison B2B Job Jobse at Queens Student Union, Belfast
Saturday 12 September
This one’s a no brainer. Joy O has made some of the most epochal tracks of the last decade. He’s also a super DJ. Job Jobse was resident at Amsterdam instutution Trouw. An unmissable occasion really.

TRACKS

Forest Swords – Tunnel

Forest Swords doesn’t really make club music, more like distorted, Sergio Leone-inspired plaintive dirges, but this mysterious track could easily open a set or provide a dreamy transition. Inspired by his visit to Carsten Höller’s current exhibition at the Hayward Gallery in London, it combines glistening bells and cavernously gentle percussion.

broken20 – east jega project

Where to begin. The Broken20 label has shared an album’s worth of irreverent bootlegs from the vaults, pitching rap vocals popular and obscure against broken beats and IDM gems. Some work, some don’t, but it’s a lot of fun nonetheless. The highlight is definitely the blend of East Flatbush Project’s ‘Tried By 12’ and (I think) Jega’s ‘Phlax’, a hip-hop tempo cut from a mid-90s Skam release. Dig deep at your leisure/peril.

Imre Kiss – Gray’s Legend

Lobster Theremin just announced its next LP, a reissue of Midnight Wave from Slovakian producer Imre Kiss. Originally released on tape on Farbwechsel, it’s a hazy, murky tread through the dank waters of the mind. You can still hear the full thing (as well as remixes from S Olbricht and Best Available Technology) on the Farbwechsel Bandcamp, but head to Lobster Theremin to order the vinyl.

Cherushii feat. Maria Minerva – Thin Line (SILK 085)

This gorgeous track is a collaboration between San Fransisco artist Cherushii and Estonian NYC resident Maria Minerva, who provides dreamily breathy vocals caught between 80s disco and the Aeroplane-led nu-disco sound of the late-00s/early-10s. It’s a wonderful late-summer jam, and features gracefully in a mix that features below – read on…

MIXES/RELEASES

WORK IN PROGRESS w/ bb.yu – SEPTEMBER 10TH – 2015

WORK IN PROGRESS w/ bb.yu – SEPTEMBER 10TH – 2015 by Trp on Mixcloud

Toronto DJ and promoter CL steps up for her latest Work In Progress show on the award-winning TRP radio station. Two hours of electronic music made by women, with a guest mix from Vancouver DJ bb.yu. The show features tunes old and new from the likes of Karen Finley (‘Lick It’ is a JAM), Lena Deen, Kablam and bb.yu herself. Get to know.

DedekindCut – Thot eNhançer

¬ b formerly known as L b or Lee Bannon has gained an alias and dropped a new release. This is a snarling bunch of tracks somewhere between dubstep, trap and IDM, dare I say it. Absolutely intriguing stuff, heady and muscular.

Machine Woman – Sonic Disturbances Podcast #5

Berlin’s Machine Woman shares her newest podcast for Seance Radio, another dark entry featuring searing techno from Peder Mannerfelt, Sigha and more. She downplays her mixing but don’t mind her, it’s great.

Lutto Lento – Mondo Hehe EP [TRNS005]

Lutto Lento follows the excellent release on Where To Now? with this playful collection of party bangers for the Polish Oficyna Transatlantyk. Label. The title track is all vibrant synths and floating percussion accompanied by a silly 1-2-3-4 count, while ‘Til Tomorro’ is an almost-disco workout.
