Rave New World (26/02)

Antoin’s away in Berlin, so here Aidan Hanratty returns for his latest look at the very best electronic gigs, tracks and mixes of the week.

Gigs

Move D & Shanti Celeste at Opium Rooms, Dublin
Friday 26 February

Craig David is sold out, so I guess this will have to do. The ageless Move D continues to thrive, most recently showcasing his considerable talents alongside Jordan GCZ on their Live In Seattle album for Further Records. A relative newcomer then by comparison, Shanti Celeste has moved from under-the-radar releases on Brstl and Idle Hands to a killer cut with Funkineven and a real hit on Max D’s Future Times. Her sets are just as bright and delightful as her tracks, too.

Flipside: DJ Fett Burger (All Night Long) at Bar Tengu, Dublin
Saturday 27 February

Fett Burger and his brother Sotofett are behind the Sex Tags powerhouse, working in the same sphere as the SUED axis of beautiful, melancholic house music. He’s playing all night here in Dublin (that’s roughly five hours), a veritable marathon by our standards. More like this please.

Tracks

Assar – Pant

Ben UFO recently shouted out the killer Born Free Records, and this cut from Assar is emblematic of their high standard. Thoroughly invigorating, hugely exciting, quality techno that really gets the blood pumping.

Different Fountains – Neve (Organism 2)

The latest release from Different Fountains is a stunning two-tracker called Adam & Neve, hilariously. While ‘Adam’ is a long and rambling experimental trip (there’s no other word for it), Neve is a more direct and focused affair. Broken beats and weird vocals abound, however, so it’s not that straightforward.

Mixes

Sassy J – Dimensions 2016 Mix #1

Quality selector Sassy J drops the first mix in the Dimensions 2016 series. As ever with the Swiss DJ, it’s a colourful affair, switching moods and tempos on a whim. Equally comfortable playing dreamy house music and slow techno, she’ll drop some heartfelt soul and disco when you least expect it.

Hidden Agenda Club Mixtape #48 – Jasmine Azarian

Hidden Agenda regularly features on this page for their quality bookings, here it’s for a guest mix in their series. Having established her name in Dublin, Jasmine Azarian is now based in London. This mix showcases her bright and effervescent style and approach. Lots of bangers in here.
