Our favourite twee-pop band Dott have recorded their version of Heroes by David Bowie and to celebrate Record Store Day 2016 they are offering a free download of the track. Dott moved from Galway, Ireland to Toronto, Canada this year and have evolved into a two-piece band comprising of Anna and Evan. They have been experimenting with drum loops and home-recordings which will very soon culminate in the release of new material. In the meantime, they will perform at the Bowie Tribute Night in The Cracker Factory, New York on April 29

As we tentatively approach the summer galleries are beginning to launch their summer shows and draw their spring endeavours to a close. This looking ahead while checking back is one of the key themes across the exhibitions chosen for this edition of Picture This. The future of Ireland, her art and the wider contemporary art landscape is discussed in shows such as 2116 in Cork, EVA International in Limerick and Phototropism in Dublin. Casting our minds back forms the centrepiece of the Peter Dressler show in Belfast as the work or the late German photographer takes centre stage, this revisionary…

Off the back of his excellent collaboration with MC Bobby Basil of hellish rap duo Dah Jevu, Wastefellow links up with director Conor Donoghue to create a beautiful digital haze to accompany the dazed and confused video for ‘Wonder’, the first single from his upcoming Amazed, A Maze! EP. Wastefellow is Dublin based experimental producer Diolmhain Ingram Roche. Citing influences from Flying Lotus to Sunn O))) and back via Tim Hecker, Wastefellow’s work is densely layered and innovative and placing slick hooks and honest vocals over unworldly synths and chewed up samples. On ‘Wonder’, a forlorn lead line, spacious beats…

The varying incarnations of Emma Garnett’s Feather project have featured casts of collaborations from multi-instrumentalist Ben ‘Bix’ McKenna (of Meltybrains?), afro-inflected musciains RiZa, iZem and Manden Express, to Come on Live Long‘s Louise Gaffney. In a similar way to her sister Loah, Garnett has been patient in her unveiling of music to the world, preferring to wait until something is as perfect and as ready as it can be before allowing it to be heard. Her latest offering, in collaboration with an eight-piece band, is the brand new single ‘Like No Other which is expected to be on an EP released…

Comprised of members of The Jimmy Cake, Hands Up Who Want To Die and Percolator, Dublin five-piece Molossus – formerly Art Slug – are set to record their debut album later in the year. The self-proclaimed sound of “an owl and a bear fighting over a mason jar full of electricity”, the band have featured in the latest installment Sean Zissou’s Practice Tapes in the form of three-song video compilation of tracks ‘Sine’, ‘Spiky’ and ‘Ocras’, filmed at Guerilla Sounds. Traversing the post-rock gamut, this material sits cross-legged somewhere between Portishead, Jessamine and Slint; brilliantly brooding and yearning forth in a tangible attempt to clasp…

Very few Irish acts have so comprehensively demanded our attention over the last couple of years quite like Rusangano Family. Having featured them as one of our “ones to watch” acts in our 15 For 15 feature last year and fondly recalling their unforgettable appearance to close our second birthday party at Dublin’s Twisted Pepper last May, the Limerick trio of God Knows, MuRli and mynameisjOhn have burned with a certain indomitable zeal from the very moment they set out on what has become a journey very much worth following. Now, after after a string of increasingly tenacious standalone releases, the trio have unveiled their…
