• A Litany of Failures: Volume IV is Announced

    Irish compilation series A Litany of Failures, which features independent acts from all corners of the island, has just announced the pre-order and tracklisting for its fourth volume.  Set for release on double vinyl and digitally on September 8th, it’s available via Bandcamp. The compilation features 22 brand new, exclusive tracks from some of our favourite acts on the island, as well as some exciting new prospects.     Running until May 16th, this year’s NI Mental Health Arts Fest has brought together a programme of varied, vivid arts events that aim to create a platform for high-quality artwork that deals compassionately and intelligently with mental health.     It’s a chilling story, that of a woman prematurely buried, presumed dead until awoken by a grave robber attempting to amputate her finger to make off with her valuable ring. Often attributed to early 18th century Lurgan woman Margorie McCall, her grave, pictured on the cover of this EP, does indeed state “lived once, buried twice” – though the existence of countless versions of this tale all over Europe, attributed to various different women from anywhere as early as the 14th century, does sow doubt on its veracity.     A break from their planned trilogy of Drone Pop albums, ahead of its final chapter, Documenta will release their first music since 2015’s Drone Pop #1 through Belfast’s Touch Sensitive Records on October 12. Titled Lady With The Ring, it’s the story of “lived once, buried twice” Margorie McCall, who lived in rural Ireland in the early 18th century. She succumbed to a fever and was hastily buried in Lurgan’s Shankill cemetery. Her grave was visited by “a tramp of disreputable character with a reckless and thieving disposition” who drew blood as he tried to prise the ring from her finger, awakening the dead woman who subsequently lived…

    Having supported the Tim Burgess-fronted band at Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival in 2015 – and later performed at the Burgess-curated Tim Peaks Stage at Festival No. 6 – Belfast drone-pop septet Documenta will support The Charlatans on the Irish leg of their forthcoming December tour.
