Experimental electronic auteur Arthuritis has released his first new music of 2020, the jarringly spacious, let claustrophobic second single from his new Ornament of the World EP, ‘Left Over Seas’. The masterfully edited 3D-animated blend of the real and digital was created by Aodhagán O Riabhaigh, accompanying Arthuritis’ mesmerisingly glitch-laden work to a tee. Continuing on the conversation opened in the abstract anti-capitalistic satire of previous single ‘Condo‘, Arthur says “the single deals with the separation in our society between those in corporate business/celebrities/etc and the average person and how either could easily be in each others position. I like to try to see from other perspectives,…

The seed of Donegal emo-tinged alt punk trio Fierce Pit Bosses has been growing the North West for a while now. Starting out as the folk-punk vessel for Eoin Gillespie’s kitchen sink small-town listlessness, he hit early the emotional notes of the likes of Jeff Rosenstock, before the project grew into a righteously fierce (sorry) live outfit. With Tuath’s Robert Mulhern at the helm on production, their debut Sharks in the Bathtub EP captures the raw, fizzing energy of Hüsker Dü, as buzzsaw guitars, snare & cymbal clatter collide with pop sensibility, and the irresistible sound of a young band with a beating heart on their sleeves. The EP is launched at Letterkenny’s Central Bar this Saturday, January 19, with support…

On Thursday (November 29), Belfast-based singer-songwriter Robyn G Shiels will release one of the Irish releases of the year, Death of the Shadows, at Belfast’s Strand Arts Centre. Self-released via Black Tragick Records on 10″ vinyl on Friday, it’s a masterfully funereal five-track EP that finds Shiels’ unmistakable brand of darkly alt-folk at its most emphatic. To win a pair of tickets to the launch show, featuring Shiels and full band, with support Oisín ó Scolaí & The Virginia Slims, simply send your answer to the following question to info@thethinair.net: What is the title of Robyn G Shiels’ debut album?

Cork, ever Ireland’s unexpected cornerstone of hazy psych, can boast another addition to the canon in the The Sunshine Factory‘s new single ‘Seer’, which we’re delighted to premiere here. This comes alongside the announcement of their debut EP proper, Cruelest Animal, the title track of which was released last year following a string of extremely promising demos and homemade recordings. Towering out of the speaker like some meta-diegetic music recorded live from a cave to soundtrack a climactic David Lynch scene – probably one of Evil Coop walking cooly away from a major explosion – ‘Seer”s measured, primal urgency, gives way to an incredible synth motif – think Vangelis’ Blade Runner Blues – before settling into a mess of rusty, screeching guitars.…

Cork, ever Ireland’s unexpected cornerstone of hazy psych, can boast another fine release, with The Sunshine Factory having just announced their debut EP proper, Cruelest Animal, the title track of which was released last year following a string of extremely promising demos and homemade recordings. Firmly establishing their neo-psychedelic chops with slots alongside the likes of KXP, The Orange Kyte, and tour support to psychedelic legends The Telescopes on their most recent Irish jaunt. It comes out on November 30th, accompanied by a hometown launch, through their own independent label, Sunshine Cult Records, and was recorded with Chris Somers at One Chance Out Studios. While Cruelest Animal was recorded a year ago, it seems that a healthy gestation…

Strabane alternative/indie-pop trio White Male Actors release their long-awaited debut EP, Ghosts, through Broken Melody Records on October 20. The band started well when they sent their single ’31 Years’ to the R.E.M. offices in April of 2013 in tribute to their breakup, catching the attention of erstwhile drummer Bill Berry, and now they release their anthemic brand of guitar-led indie-pop to the world, launching it with a Hidden Machine show at Voodoo on October 30. The EP was recorded and mixed in Staffordshire’s Burntwood Studios, as well as in Derry’s Blast Furnace and the one track released so far, ‘Mysteries and…
