Formerly the indie kings of Belfast, General Fiasco return for a one-off reunion show at Voodoo on Wednesday, January 31. The band, formed of Mid-Ulster natives Stephen Leacock and brothers Owen & Enda Strathern, gained notable popularity in the UK indie circuit in their stint together, before the trio’s last show together as General Fiasco took place in June 2013. Their early EPs & 2010 debut album Buildings, led to their featuring in the likes of The Inbetweeners, and in the years since their dissolution, they’ve performed together and apart in various guises, including with Oh Volcano and Franklyn. The next installment of Getting To Know… at Belfast’s Oh Yeah Centre on Thursday, September 11 will see new-fangled electro-pop duo Oh Volcano perform and discuss their craft in front of an intimate audience. The pair, comprised of ex-General Fiasco members Owen and Enda Strathern, played their debut headline show in Belfast just last month. To date they have released two singles, ‘Oceans’ and ‘See No Evil’. Doors for the Getting To Know… session at the Oh Yeah Centre are at 8pm and admission is free. General Fiasco brothers Owen and Enda Strathern have unveiled their debut track as Oh Volcano, titled ‘Oceans’. Marking a decidedly more progressive and electronic direction, the track is accompanied by a video directed by local musician and filmmaker Edward Butler. General Fiasco announced a hiatus in early 2013 but have played a few gigs with Duke Special and a one-off small gig in Belfast. Check out the video for the ‘Oceans’ below.

To mark the release of his highly-anticipated debut album, VerseChorusVerse AKA Belfast-based singer-songwriter Tony Wright has announced a special, full-band show in association with The Thin Air. Featuring Jonny Black and Herb Magee from LaFaro and Stu Bell and Stephen Leacock (ex-General Fiasco, Desert Hearts), the Northern Irish supergroup of sorts (above) will bring to life what Wright calls “an edgy, full blooded, forward thinking, rootsy rock n roll album laced equally with hope and realism”. Lisburn singer-songwriter Rams’ Pocket Radio AKA Peter McCauley will perform a special show at Belfast Stiff Kitten on June 7 to mark the release of his new record, titled ‘Béton’. Supporting McCauley on the night will be Katharine Phillippa, Nathan Connolly of Snow Patrol, David C Clements, Gareth Dunlop, ASIWYFA and Owen Strathern from General Fiasco – all artists who have collaborated with the musician down the years.
